Usually I would pull out the choke and let it run for about 10 minutes. As I take off rolling on the throttle the bike backfires and attempts to stall. I roll off slowly then roll on the throttle again and it runs fine..Is this normal? Or what could be the problem?
is it carb farting or backfiring out the pipes? using the choke for 10min is way too long! you could be fouling the plugs!! use the choke as little as possible. i use mine to start up then as soon as the motor gets going,no more than 30sec.s to 1 minute i push the choke in and use the throttle lock to keep it from stalling till it warms up and can idle on its own.
Throttle lock, no one has told me about that..ill do some research and learn how to do that...also RutRoo..where are you in East TN?
Plastic star screw/nut under the throttle grip. It is a friction lock, on bikes w/o cruise control you can tighten it to hold the throttle in place while on a trip where your speed is realatively constant. Less stress on the hand. I prefer to pull the enrichener out fully to start the bike (both the sporty and the fx). Once it starts push it in until the idle slows a bit, like about half way. Put on my gloves, zip my jacket, put my glasses on and roll out the driveway. Once I am rolling push the thing in all the way. If you come to a stop it will let you know if you need a little throttle to warm it up some more.

This is my routine too. Works like a charm and never had any backfire/carb fart issues.

Or you could adjust the tensioner on the choke/enrichner so that it will slide back in on it's own as the bike warms up. But I agree with the others if yours tensioner isn't adjusted. Choke all the way out, one or two twists of the thottle, & hit the start button.....Then push the choke back in about half way to slightly slow the idle while finishing throwing on the glasses/gloves/helmet/etc.
