I've hosed down a couple idiots from craigslist with a drychem fire extinguisher for showing up wasting my time then insulting me with the low ball roll , you wanna play I've got no problem with that . Mind you this all after it was agreed this crap would not happen during the phone conversations . I hear you man but Ebay still sucks more .
All you had to do is say no. The low offers is to see if you bite. As for spraying someone with Dry-Chem, I just might of shot you, I am always armed
Don't take lowballing personal. You never know when someone is really hurting and just needs fast cash, or they're selling something stolen. Don't be insulted by someone looking for a bargain. On the otherhand, if you have an agreement and they show up and want to lowball after making previous arrangements is another story.
It's also all about their approach. I learned in Financial Peace University how to be a respectful lowball buyer. Tell the person, "You know you can get more than what I'm offereing, but if you want to sell today I'll buy it for X price." When shopping property you can tell them, "You can get more, but I'm a cash buyer and we can close on Friday if you'd like."
What doitches me off about lowballers is when I post an ad on CL, I always state: "No lowballers,checks,tire-kickers,time wasters, etc", then they lowball you anyway. Best way to deal with them? reluctantly agree to their lowball offer, then when they ask for directions, send 'em 80 miles in the opposite direction of your house! That'll teach 'em!
I bought my bike off a craigslist add. I see alot of people trying to sell stuff for more then fair market value. I am one that refuses to pay almost new prices for used parts. I think abotu shipping fees etc and if the total is not less then what I can pick it up at a dealer for then I make and offer. I see alot of people tryign to sell stuff on CL for more then what the stuff is worth. They think their stuff is worth gold for some reason. Oh well, I make an offer and if they say no then I go with it and keep looking. If they bite then it is a done deal.
you just can't take it all that seriously there are people who play the game craigslist just to kill time. I would spell out a phone number if you use one in your ad just to slow down the robo calls and don't list an email address just use the CL response. You can say what you want about CL but it's still the best way to put X for sale reaching the most people.
I buy lots of used stuff. I buy from Ebay, Craigslist, flea markets, swap meets, and yard sales. I've been laughed at, cussed, threatened, and been in several heated arguments during the haggling process after which the seller refused to sell to me at any price. I've also walked away with a ton of great deals.
I love to haggle. The problem is that most other people don't. They get all upset and take it personal when you don't give them top dollar for something. My intention is not to **** them off but if I can't get it for a really good price then I'm walking.
I've also been the seller and have been subjected to every tactic imaginable.

I have my brand new two week old C&C seat and matching bib listed on Craigslist for a VERY fair price. It has been there about six hours and I have had three terrible low ball offers and several other business offers completely unrelated to my item by scammers...Maybe I need to rethink my position on Ebay...
You use Graigslist and won't use Ebay? Isn't that like eating at McDonald's because Subway is so unhealthy?
I've been using Ebay for 10 years or so - bought and sold hundreds of items fast and without the slightest problem. I use it to buy and sell everything motorcycle related.
With craigslist you need to list what you're trying to sell for at least 30% more than what you want to get for it, because every single person that uses that site is going to try to haggle with you. On top of that, 9 out of 10 will try to haggle even more when they come to pick it up, even after both parties have agreed on a price either through e-mails or over the phone. I absolutely hate haggling so I don't even bother with craigslist anymore.
