any one that truly thinks that a helmet will not help in a crash is not playing with a full deck. my taxes are high enough without paying to keep some brain dead idiot on life support that did not wear a helmet. if you have plenty of hospitalization insurance, don't wear a helmet. the rest of you clowns need to buckle up.
I believe your anger to be misplaced. We should be angry at the ones who are taking the money and not someone exercising their freedom.
I do not want your life support. Please do not force it on me then use it as an excuse to control my life.
Skip the political crap and your right , well maybe some politics come into play . I know when they were forcing the helmet law down our throats out here in Ca . Several big name foreign made helmet manufactures had big money involved with the pro helmet lobbyist . They had projected a huge cash cow going by the percentage of riders here .
This is also why in the 3 yrs after the helmet law went into effect we had such a clusterfuk with the PD and the DOT nonsense that still goes on occasionally , the bulk of HD riders which made up the biggest majority of sales went out and bought American made beanie helmets instead of the the brands that lobbied for the law . Cash cow came up dry bag they got about 30% of expected revenues and all hell broke loose over it , anybody remember those first 6 months ?
Towns right next door to each other couldn't get their laws straight what was legal in one would get you a ticket in another or towed in some it was a nightmare .

I remember it well. I was living in San Francisco at the time and local cops/CHP/Sheriff, etc. had no clear guidelines. You'd get a ticket from one LEO, but not another. The courts were confused and kind of gave up.
Then there were the beanie helmet manufacturers and sellers that were not part of the lobbyist's scam. I bought a beanie (for novelty uses only) and a DOT sticker was slid across the counter to me, to do with what I wanted. More Confusion and thrown out tickets.
I was wearing a Bell helmet then when they were still made here.
Would you believe Bell wasn't a player in that mess ? I came from a helmet state so my first yrs out here were a joy and I would wear my trusty half lid when I was city bound , just hated to be told I had to then and what kind on top of it .
PS. Bell was the helmet you wore in the 70's , anything else was bigger than Darth Vader's rig and looked worse I miss mine .

Remember the experiments w/ rats? Beyond a certain density, they became murderous. Laws limiting our freedoms are created by a bunch of disturbed and really unhappy people. Where people have more space, they generally are content to keep their noses in their own business.

Same argument could be made re:
Smokers
Drinkers
Fatties

I agree. I carry tags on my keys that say "Do not keep me on life support". My family have hand written letters that say the same. If I'm brain dead or paralyzed, just let me go. That's my choice though. It's my body and my life, so it should be my choice.
I don't fault those that want to wear DOT helmets. Honestly I really don't feel or think one way or the other about it. That's their body and their life, and also their choice.
I'm new to the Forum today and could think of no better way to get my feet wet than to jump into a discussion on helmet laws.
I'm a Rider's Edge instructor and have been teaching motorcycle classes for 11 years now in Illinois, a non-helmet state. I support mandatory training requirements, not mandatory helmet laws.
Now, I'll go look for the political forum and continue there.
