Well the way I see it, you are done buying "those" parts. Thus...no lie!

You could have said "I had a coupon". That one works every time.

On the other hand, my wife wants to spend more on the bikes than I do.

You need a smarter wife. One that doesn't ask the obvious. If not then you need to be smarter and to learn the cover all questions. Example----huh and did you say something. Don't forget the cover all answers. Example-----sure, yes for now, and the best one of all-----is that new shoes/blouse/jeans/ etc.

serious response:
you should never have to lie to your significant other. if you're lying about something you feel guilty about, that probably means you shouldnt be doing it in the first place. but on the flipside, if you are lying about something that you dont or shouldnt feel guilty about, then she is preventing you from being you (for lack of a better phrase), which is also bad. either way, lying points to other potentially serious problems.

semi-serious response:
separate bank accounts!! assuming you're both fiscally responsible adults who take care of needs before wants, you shouldn't have to ask permission to spend your own money, and neither should she.

joking response:
dump yer OL and get a sugar momma who will buy all those parts for you! :P

When the next batch of parts arrive and she questions your previous statement regarding the other shipment of parts you must look her straight in the eyes and say " I never said I wasn't ever going to get more parts.......Who are you gonna believe....Me or your lying ears?" Then duck for cover.

I don't know where to start:

For those with separate accounts: Why split bills, is this your wife or a room mate? Do you split bills 50/50? How is that fair if one of you makes more than the other? Is it fair that you spend "your money" on what you want and she invests and saves responsibly? What if you are in your golden years and are penniless, do you get to bailed out by your wife if she lived a responsible life?

For the OP, is it really funny dropping 3K on bike parts without her knowledge? It may work for you, but my wife and I are more "one" than that.

It's all your business, and none of mine, but you started a thread on it. I really hope you're dropping this kind of money on it AFTER its paid off. Anyways, your business, your life, enjoy.
