I have dressed like a biker for over 20 years. I always wanted a Harley, but could never afford one until this year. I always told my friends - "I'm not a 'wannabe', I'm a 'can't-afford-to-be'", and it was completely true. I always had the attitude to go with the look... all I was missing was the bike. So it doesn't bug me if a person likes to get all dressed up like a biker. Most of them probably would ride if their circumstances were different
I couldnt agree more with Clammy on this one. I always dressed like a biker, talked like a biker, looked like a biker. It just took me 36 years to finally get my first Harley. Now if I see a guy on a Honda and he's wearing a Harley t-shirt, thats like a mortal sin and deserves a beating. LOL !

that was the point i was trying to make. i guess i didn't express it the right way. that is why i think of myself as a rider and not a biker(whatever a biker may be) because i like to ride and when you love to ride the miles will eventually add up. it is not about the image, it is about the ride. i agree, if someone can't ride alot for whatever reason, it is no a big deal. if they love it they will ride when they can and as often as they can. i just don't think that loving to ride has anything to do with how you look and how you act. like it was said said @#$% them!

Well I am not to worried about the guys that just wear the t-shirts becuase hell I had one before I had a bike, mind you it was a gift just before I had a deal on a bike fall through but I wore it anyway I new it was a matter of when not if, the doo rag/bandanna was to try to keep the long hair under control but the hair was from being a metalhead and over all I could really care less if some guy wants to spend $25 on a t-shirt its his money after all. But I noticed something today while I was out riding, there are so many people with harely stickers on there cars or trucks its just crazy I know theres not that many bikes in my area even though I live in a big city. The sad thing is that most of the people seem like they wouldn't even give me the time of day I have even gotten a coulpe of dirty looks from some of those same people and that little sneaky reach to lock the door, it must be I look to much like a "biker" on a bike(oh no!!). I'm pretty sure a good part of this whole problem is coming from this "chopper fad" thats started with american chopper getting so popular and Jesse james name getting so big now adays. It's become the "cool" thing to be biker regardless of wether or not you own a cycle since most of these guys want $80,000 bike I can see how most realize harley is much more realistic when it comes to the logos on their clothes.

OK I think I am done ranting for the day now its time to get some sleep.

This is a popular topic on many chat/discussion boards. Frankly I don't care much about what the posers are doing or other so called "real bikers." I like to ride, and ride alot, therefore most of the people I see are actually riding (since we are both on the road). I guess I just don't care enough about image, boots, denim shirt, gloves, shades and jeans. Only other requirements for me is the bike and full tank of gas.
So getting back to the original post, not sure what to tell you except its more interesting riding than walking through a parkinglot, lol..... Ride safe & often......... T

Hmm, so an acquaintance of mine who is somewhat disabled, and can now ride only about 100 miles at a time, is a poser? Even though she's almost 60, and has ridden solo since she was about 16? I don't think so.

There are exceptions to every rule.

I have a Hard Rock Cafe T-Shirt....I don't own one.
I have other T-Shirts, hats that business owners have given me and I wear. I consider it a honor guys that don't have bikes may wanna grow-up and be one of us.
I have attended events when I didn't have my bike with me for one reason or another. I live out in the country and after dark there are all kinds of varmits to dodge. So if I go somewhere getting home after dark is a consideration.

I bought my first bike in 96, so I've not ridden that long and it was a Honda ace 1100.

My friends rode HD's and I even asked them if it was okay to ride with them I didn't know if it was "legal" for HD's to ride among the poor folks.
I wanted an HD but could only afford a used bike. I loved it from the minute it started. My booger today is painted after my old yellow and black ace.

The funny thing I did, among many, call it poser.. I don't know I went straight to the local Harley store and bought a leather jacket and chaps.. I thought you had to have it. "protection" . and some great red wing boots.. they are the only boots I’ve owned.

Well it was July in North Carolina.. a full face helmet.. full leathers.. gloves.. solid black.. boy.. I look tough huh. LOL

I almost died of heat stroke <grin>.
I thought and still do, it looked good.. but I do like the "leathers" but only in the cold now. I guess I grew up a bit and for my age it’s about time. Wearing HD didn’t make me a biker and owning a bike didn’t either for me, it was time in the saddle that was going to make me enjoy something that I had never enjoyed before. It was going to change the way I behave towards people.

I finally bought a HD and love it, its funny now I wear my fog togs more then my leathers. For that matter I can't remember wearing them. I finally learned for me it was the ride not the look that I enjoyed.

But to those that love the "look" I think its cool.. And don't care what anyone rides or wears. For me it was a process of unlearning and learning.

When I asked my friends if I could ride with them, they did the best thing ever.. they laughed ..and simply said we don't care what you ride , we just want you to ride.
Being brand new to HD’s now I have to start learning all over again, this forum and others teach me a lot.
One thing I’ve learned in here, and on the road, “bikers” not having a better term are good people.
I don’t see people in cars/trucks/cages waving at each other, and don’t see them pull over when they see a fellow car broken down on the side of the road.
And today a guy named Squirrel offered to show me how to change my oils in my new HD.. I expect him to be a biker. So I guess maybe if I ride long enough I hope to become one. If that means what I see in others that have helped me on my way.
It is very different coming from a Honda to the HD world.. What do you mean I have to change my own oil <grin> .

I have a short list of things I love, my wife, my daughter and my bike in that order. Well.. okay booger is 20 months old..she may get more attention then either of them . So if that is confusing my bike is named after my daughter and my yellow booger is painted after my Honda.. ? what does this have to do with being a biker/poser/ Rub? I like the names assigned in this forum, the people that have been in here for years. And have 1000’s of posts being helpful have earned a certain level of respect and I’m just a passenger.. but last week I was just a rubberneck who knows I maybe come a biker one day <grin>.

When I got my first HD I had all the shirts chaps HD jackets Boots, belt do rags too. Now I have a few HD shirts that are 10 years old and no HD emblem stuff except my boots and wallet. Other than that I dont have the desire to spend my cash on those things anymore. For me I guess its like out growing a faze. Plus it is just so damn expensive. Instead I sink it in on the bike.
