I am getting older now, and probably am one of those bikes that everyone wants to pass.
I have no problem with people passing, as long as it's done with a little common sense.
What really pisses me off, is what happned a couple of weeks ago.
I was putting along at about 60 on a 2 lane country road, no cars anywhere, and pretty much in the middle of my lane.
Then all of a sudden, this kid on a BMW passes me going about 85-90 IN THE LANE with me in the middle of it.
I just about crapped my pants as his missed me by about 6 inches. There was a double yellow line on this section, and it was approaching a blind corner. I was paying attention to the road, no my rearwiew mirrors, and this guy totally came out of knowwhere.
The least he could have done is approach me with some comon courtesy! I guess that's too much to expect from some people
these days. In my old days, I would have chased him down, and gave him my opinion of his sorry azz.
This type of passing really burns my bisquit!
What did he think, I was going to race him? or was he just pissing on my parade or what?
Riders like that make me wonder why I ride sometimes.
I have experienced this when coming up on an organized ride like you, the people escorting the event thought I was part of them and wanted me back in formation. One reason for this I'm sure is when folks start passing each other playing leap frog in anger or haste someone always goes down. I been on many organized rides and for the reasons just mentioned I've seen countless accidents as a result.
They simply may have mistaken you for someone with the group.
Well, HWY 129 is not a race track. (aka the dragon). The speed limit is 30 mph. If all you wanna be racers want to go fast, go find you a race track and race for real money. If who ever is bhind me on the dragon while i cruisin thru, well I just dont care if you want to go faster or not. This summer I just about hit some creep , I was drifting out towards the center, didnt see him coming from behind. Why dont you croth rockets go to I 140 , you can do 600 mph there. [8D]
I've totaled enough bikes to know A) anybody trying to pass my already "going to fast" self is wreckless enough that I probably don't want to be too close to them anyway. B) I'm not intimidating anyone on a 50hp 800lb bagger. Sure I can beat a motorhome in the 1/4 miles.... but who am I kidding? C) If I have to pass you on a 50hp 800lb bagger, well, that shiny new 96" twin cam was kinda lost on you wasn't it?
heck, ive seen groups of harleys going so slow they have people in MINIVANS trying to get past them. UPHILL. its embarassing to watch. [:'(]
either keep up with traffic, or use the turnout. whining about getting passed while travelling 10 mph below the speedlimit is weaksauce, group ride or no.
if'n ya cant ride it like ye stole it, at least try not to be a rolling pylon.
I say if you want to pass and know what you're doing, go for it. If you're gonna mess up my day by trying something you don't know how to do . . . back off and wait, you'll get your chance.
What pisses me off are the stupid losers who thinks they should pull off on the side of the road, still doing 60mph . . . throwing rocks and debris all over my windshield while I'm trying to pass. Not only are they breaking the law, they're messing up my vehicle.
all the above; that's why I no longer ride with groups. Too stressfull. One exception is the escorted, road closed to traffic, event as in the Thunder in the Tunnel run in March.[:'(]

If you were at Deal's Gap, then the speed limit is 35 and the entire road is a no passing zone if I remember correctly. Since there are riders there of varying abilities, and it's ILLEGAL, I wonder why you'd pass the whole group. The idea there is not to see how quickly you can go through but to enjoy the ride. I tend not to enjoy it when some azzhole is ripping by me at 70 or running into my lane because he's coming in the opposite direction ripping past someone . That results in a crash. Now, that said, If I see someone coming up on me faster than I care to ride, I generally look for a place to safely move to the right side of the lane and wave them by. I try notot hold them up but my safety means more than their desire to rip past. I've always said too that if someone hauling azz in the opposite direction comes into my lane and crashes into me because of his speed, he better hope I am not in shape to kick his azz, cause if I can, I damn sure will.
I was on a mountain road that's popular with the sportbikes. I'm behind a couple sportbikes that are going slow only because they're behind a couple (one male, one female) on harleys. They harleys eventually go single file to the right side of the lane and the sportbikes speed up to pass. So, I speed up to follow them as the couple have been going slower than I wanted to, also. However, when the last sportbike passes the guy on the harley, HE speeds up damn near forcing me into oncoming traffic? WTF?!!!! He then spends the next two miles chasing me down just to show his woman that he's a better rider than me, I guess. IDIOTS!!!!!
