Angry Bestwestern/Harley Davidson program

Took a long california trip this last week using the Best Western/ Harley Davidson card.
Had a miserable experience with a hotel in Carpinteria California and called Bestwestern corporate the very next day to log a complaint. They ASSURED me they would get this taken care of and have the manager contact me immediately. This was April 30th. When I got home this morning, I again called them to find out why no one from either the hotel or their corporate headquarters bothered to respond back. They said they would AGAIN contact the manager, but suspect that nothing will be done.
Bad customer service from Bestwestern.
Beware that if you use this program, you are on your own and they will not protect you from bad hotel owners.
I am gong back to the Marriott rewards program on my next trip.

The Best Western rewards discount is no better than asking for the AAA discount or AARP or any other. I have tried to use the card number ( I never got a card) in Kansas several times, It never seems to help. Jetsam

Most Best Western's are franchised so any thing like consistant quality service is non existant. The only thing I can say about them is they are consistantly over priced. I seem to do just fine with the half the price places, like Super 8.

I use it whe I travel. The $12-25 discount per night will end up paying for my HOG life membership in 4 years. Plus the quality of the hotels is usually better than others. But if I pull in to any hotel and it is a POS...I'm leaving and going somewhere else.

BTW, the OP never said what the issue was.

The issue was the air condiditoner did not wrok, the room smelled like smoke, even though they assured me it was a non smoking room. It was terribly noisey. You could hear the people above me, talking. I called the front desk about 8:00 PM to be asked to be moved to another room. Their response was" sorry we all sold out". Whe I left the next morning, I complained to the front desk manager and he said " oh we have problems with the air conditioner all the time. We fix it and it breaks again".

Well the Harley program has nothing to do with that stuff. All it really is is a slight discount on cost.

We have used that program several times. It doesn't appear to be as good a discount as AAA. A few times Best Western had a "wash rack" so that I could "clean the grime off my bike". This has always consisted of a hose, a dirty bucket, and a dirty wash cloth. The last place we stayed also had a bottle of Joy dishwashing soap for us to use. IMO, the program just isn't worth the hassle of asking for it.

We just stayed at a Very nice BW but this Post made me laugh a bit as we were in a Non-Smoking room in direct sight-line of the Front Desk. The Housekeepers were puffing away the entire time they cleaned ( well what little they did) . yea i looked at the MC rewards thing but AAA seemed a better rate.

If you get an on-line survey Rip them for what was wrong and you will get a response . Calling does nothing as there is no Paper Trail for them to worry about.

I haven't been hugely impressed. I signed up this time last year when I bought my bike and after 3 requests, I still haven't received my card or package. Also like others, my AAA discount has with a few exceptions been better than the HOG discount.

Best Westerns are independently owned and there are bad ones out there just like any other chain. We stayed at the one in Douglas WY last year on our way up to the Black Hills after the Rally. It was bad. Carpet in hall way was wore the f-k out. Room and every thing in it smelled like smoke. AC was filthy. We went to wash some clothes and the washer was out of order. The breakfast was god awful. Well you get a customer servery after each stay from BW if you are a rewards card member. I gave it to them in the servery. The manager of the BW hotel called me and apologized to me and told me all they are doing to improve the hotel. She asked me what she could do to make it up to me. I said fix the problems. She gave me a full refund with out me even asking!

We stayed at another BW in Custer SD and it was great! My favorite one is in Lusk WY, it was a old motor inn that had a old gas station that was completely remodeled. The owners were great, rooms were nice and super clean (I left a tip it was so clean). The breakfast was a full spread! Prices were cheaper than most hotels besides the Super 8 that comes with a condom and hooker.
