Is riding Honda that is built in USA somehow less American ?
Well you can stop mourning for Bin Laden.

Read my previous quote, If the guy hates his bike, and just has rehashed issues that were owner inspired. Why ride a Harley. Maybe you can explain to the poor sole how to check his oil.

Nope don't work for Harley but I am a repeat customer. And yup Vivid Black complements the Ducati Red in the garage.

Are you really that stupid?

Why ride a harley? Because I want to and I or anyone else don't need to explain our reasons to you.

Congrats. Do you think you're the only one? I've had 9 and 3 of them I dumb enough to buy new. Now I just buy used and support little INDY shops and real Americans that might be out of work and need cash. Or dumb RUBS that sink a shitload into their "investment" and try to sell outright before they buy another new one.

Sounds like you're doing alright in this economy. I have less $$$ in my 2 harleys, 2 Triumphs and 1 Beemer than just one of your Screaming Chickens. .

The point is
that some of us can build a better bike in our garage with our own hands and our own tools than you can buy at a dealer.
and the other point is that $$$ doesn't buy class or sense. that should be obvious if you look in the mirror.

It's on the ends of part number 130 in the diagram. It appears in the picture that it's part of the linkage, but it isn't. It's a ball & socket arrangment that screws on, and as I found out later, others have had them fail--without warning-- around 15K miles.

Look at the picture and imagine what you would do if that failed when you HAD to change gears to keep from being run over. That's what happened to me. Fortunately the car bearing down on us was able to pass us in our lane.

Do yourself a favor and spend $20 to change them out on your bike now.

Merging into interstate traffic. 1st to 2nd--worked fine. 2nd to 3rd--shifter connected to nothing but air. Traffic was moving 60-70 and I'm stuck in 2nd going 25 with my wife on the back. As I mentioned above, the first car to come up behind us passed us in our own lane. Friends riding behind us were pale as ghosts and said "we thought you were dead". All because of a 10 dollar part that is known to wear out.

If we had been hit--and survived--today you might be riding a bike from the Sharknose Motor Company because I'd own a big chuck of their treasury. :-)

That statement is silly.

No garage built bike is going to have the R & D and testing that goes into the average H-D. The average guy simply cannot build to the quality of any major manufacturer, mainly because he doesn't have the quality control and testing equipment necessary to produce a relatively defect free bike.

The bikes built on TV shows and such are not serious bikes to be ridden thousands of miles.

The quality has improved lately. You should of seen the garbage coming off assembly lines in the 70's and early 80's.... and we were still buying them and trying to improve without pissing and moaning on the internet.
My '77 FX had numbers stamped into case on the angle that didn't allow for the full serial number before numbers went off the edge. They stamped half of the number before realizing that. The factory stamped a line thru it, then re-stamped the full number below it ....
It read
1HD xxxyyyx
IHD xxxyyyxxyyzz

my '89 FLST from the factory had swingarm pivot overtightened so bad that it would limit travel and sounded like a cheap motel bed on a honeymoon night. Went back to the dealer 5-6 times before he gave up. Took it a buddy's INDY shop and fixed it same day. So much for the warranty.
