I'm sure some of you are like me and shake your head at the stupid things you observe other riders doing. Yesterday I see this guy on a nice softail, waiting for the light at an extremely busy intersection. Both hands off the bars, on his hips, right up the a$$ end of the car ahead of him. I can tell he's not paying attention to his surroundings, even combing his hair at one point. Once in while I find that I have to force myself not to ride laxed or let my guard down. The close calls I've had over the years have come when least expected and in the blink of an eye. You can never let your guard down because the odds are high you might not get a second chance. But this guy takes the cake.
This depends on the situation, how heavy was the traffic, how long is the light, is there already a vehicle stopped behind him? I always try to be aware of my situation, but sometimes when I'm stopped I may relax a little also, especially if I'm in a basically secure situation, or one where I can't really do anything anyway.
Two days ago I see a guy on an older Honda Nighthawk. I see him coming toward me and something just looks off. Anyway as he gets closer it appears as though he has a helmet on his chest. As I pass him I see he has a child, maybe 3-4 years old sitting on the tank holding the bars. The kid is so small that thier legs are sticking straight out and can not even wrap around the tank. At least the kid has a helmet on. The rider does not. This is on a busy street full of cars at just about 1:00 PM as I and the rest of the town is heading back to work after lunch. What the h3ll are people thinking sometimes!
It's almost like there needs to be a minim passenger age law to protect kids from their stupid parents or something.
You wouldn't believe the long list of stupid rider tricks I've seen in 38+ years of riding and there's no end to the new ones they keep coming up with .
Try to minimize the ones we make ourselves is the best we can hope for .
Not to educate anyone, and speaking from experience, the "one" car stopped behind theory can get you killed. I'll continue to keep my clutch in and my escape routes open in that particular situation.
