I went to the website and submitted for the "free" magazine. (which is really only free if you chose not to subscribe).
I also get American Iron, I like to check out the customs, gives me ideas.
I find that ironic, it's "free" but as you say only if you cancel [8D]
I have a ton of subscriptions,,, Am Rider is the best cause, its for US,, the basic harley rider, its for the RIDER,, they have great ride reviews, product reviews,,, and your not staring at a bunch of unrideable, big buck, bull crap rediculous creations,,, Am Iron , is not worth the money,, although I was in the July 04 issue!...
Just to give another take on this subject. I subscribe to American Rider and I personally think it is seriously lacking in content. Believe it or not I think HOG Tales has more usable content.
I have had many mag's in the past. Some actually did have great content. And over time ended up being a big advertisement. In the advent of the internet, I seldom ever purchase a real magazine any more. Additionally, if when doing an errand at the super market and find a what ever mag that has an article that I want to read, more often then not, it also is on line.
So I enjoy my computer with the pop-up manager set on HI and a healthy virus scanner and dual firewalls to keep add's from blowing me out of my chair!
Now if the mag's decide that they really need to make money from all the parts/this and that kind of add's which they are publishing, then they should print parts cataloge and call it that, and toss in an article once in a while. Just to maintain some fairness in product labling mind you.
But then again, beer is +/- 96% water and thats not being sold as bottled water either!
I have a sub to it. Right after I renewed it they changed their focus towards what I'd call touring. Yeah, it has some good stuff in it, especially Minton's stuff. The rest of it is now starting to sound like an elitist Beemer mag. Won't be renewing, but will check it at the news stand to see if Minton has anything I want to read.
I went from Hot Bike to American Iron when they hired an idiot Editor about year and a half ago. He had pages of "I drunk this" and stupid spy stories. That's nice - rather do those things myself, tell me about the bikes.
Moved to American Iron. Like the content. The engine article fromt he guy in Toronto is worth the price of admission. But I agree, bummed on the customs. Just read a feature on an all chrome bike that holds gallon of gas. Very practical.
Is American Rider really more H-D focused?
I just did a little quick lookin around there. First, year sub is like $26? And some initial reading made me think it's a little too cerebral for me. And this guy Clem with the beret - http://www.americanrider.com/more.cfm?sectionid=435 ?
Just to give another take on this subject. I subscribe to American Rider and I personally think it is seriously lacking in content. Believe it or not I think HOG Tales has more usable content.
Just my opinion
I tend to agree...somewhat. Lately they've been spending more time on rides than the bikes, accessories, tech, etc. I enjoy a good article about a ride...but they have a couple every month, and sometimes they're a little long-winded.
Still, I enjoy the magazine...and I certainly prefer it to the V-twin, Easyrider magazines. I'm interested in Harleys....not customs that have almost no harley left in them.
American Rider also covers Victory and smaller domestic brands...which I'm always interested in reading about.
