It seems there are groups of people targeting solo riders for bike jacking!
The MO is they ride around 2 UP until they find someone riding alone, follow him/her or "ride with them" until they stop for a stretch, then assault and take your bike. This was an issue in the city with crotch rockets here a few years back, but apparently they are expanding to include high end touring bikes.
I know the first reaction, cause it was mine too, "Let them try it, it will be the last thing they do" but think hard about it. He told me the friend of his that this happened to was carrying, but he got off the bike, they pulled up all friendly, next thing he knows, he wakes up with a tazer burn and a missing bike. No real desciption of the offender as they both had full face helmets on, riding 2 up on a black crotch rocket.
