They fawn the 1st week of June in Maine. A couple years ago I had a big doe run across the road out in front of me by about 50 feet. I stopped and was watching her because she just stood there in the ditch on the opposite side of the road which was odd. As I'm sitting there watching her a new born fawn walks out of the tall grass and stopped about 2 feet in front of my front tire and just stared at me for a minute. Momma deer was pissed, the hair on her neck was all bristled up. I also avoid riding at night but in this instance is was the middle of a sunny day. Ride safe
I had a similar experience while in my pickup. Momma came across the road so I stopped. As I sat there, twins came out and started to cross directly infront of the pickup. I sat and waited but they never came out the other side. Momma was just standing ont he edge of the trees looking and waiting. I got out of the pickup and walked to the front of it and both twins were sniffing my front bumper. Not a care in the world. I could have grabbed them both by the neck as they sat there sniffing. Momma was not so happy, She was snorting and stomping away on the edge of the tree line. I finally had to tell the twins to "Git" and shooed them away twoards momma.
I usually try to leave deer along till september then all bets are off. Out comes the Bow till rifle season opens.
just talked to GUMBY the goofy bastard is laughing about it. he says he diden evan go down his feet never left the pegs. he was doin abou 45-50 mph, black betty has a busted head light a a couple minor issues. all is well considering.
The tall feller says thanks for the get well wishes.
I stopped by there to donate some spare parts - Black Betty is up on the lift and with the broken stuff stripped off already. Some "wimenz" came by and took him out to help with the healing process.
He'll be back on the road in no time. Like he said, he was one lucky cowboy.
