Default Difference between FXD and FXDB

Looking for my wife's first bike. Is there a big difference between these two besides wheels, cast vs. spoke , and bars? She is only about 5'5" so seat height is important. Would probably have to change out the mini apes on the Street Bob. I think they both have mid-controls. I am looking at around an 08 model.

I looked at Sportsters but I think she would outgrow it in short order. So any opinions on which is better Dyna or Sporster for a new rider? Thanks.

The frame, engine, and forks are the same....everything else is different. Oh and the the Bob has a black engine every year but 09.

I think that pretty much somes it up.

When my wife was looking (same height) she had trouble flat footing the dyna's and softtails due to the seat width making her legs spread out too much, just wasn't comfortable for her. She had no trouble with her '07 sportster 1200 low, really enjoys it, fit and ride. And damn is that thing peppy! She hasn't "outgrown" it a bit.

The sportster is a better option for a new rider. Less weight an easier to maneuver at slow speeds. Started my wife with a 95 sportster after going to the msf course thru harley. Rode it about a year an put her on my dyna to see how she could do. Had problems at slow speeds maneuvering the bike. Bought a 2004 sportster rubber mounted motor an she loves the bike. Easy for her to maneuver at slow speeds an no vibration like the 95 had. Heck I think it rides as good as the dyna an she is good for 5 to 6 hrs of riding with no problem.

That is what I was worried about was long rides. We ride two up right now and do 300 to 400 miles. We have not taken a long ride yet, but plan to later this summer.
