This by far is the most effective way to clean melted plastic and rubber off of pipes and heat shields. It is a procedure that takes a little practice (use a very shallow angle, as if you’re using a straight razor to shave your whiskers). Once most of the crud is gone I use mothers chrome polish. The pipes end up looking new with out any scratches.

No way it can get any easier than using Easy Off. Did that today to remove some pretty tough marks.

First reply was the answer I was going to give as well...Goo Gone or Goof Off. Finish with rubbing alcohol to get rid of any oily residual before heating up the pipes again.

I use Turtle Wax Chrome Cleaner. Works great. I try to get it taken care of while the pipes are still warm.

I've tried all the above and for me nothing works better than a little WD-40 and a razor blade on a cold pipe. The razor blade has *never* scratched my pipes; probably because the WD-40 makes 'em kinda slick. Any and all burned on stuff comes right off, and the pipes look like new ....

Nother vote for EZ-Off. I heat the pipes up and use a cotton rag. DO NOT touch your hot pipe with a micro-fiber towel...don't ask me how I know, just don't do it.
