How I got back into riding
When my son turned 17, he wanted a motorcycle, but had never ridden one. He was a responsible kid and had saved his own money, so I accompanied him to look at a used 500cc sportbike. He didn't know how to ride, so I had to test ride the bike for him, though I hadn't been on one for nearly 25 years.
I remember saying something stupid to the owner like where's the kickstarter? Keep in mind, i had nothing to do with bikes... didn't look at them in shops; didn't read biker mags; nothing.
Anyway, i got it started and I climbed aboard. As soon as my axx hit the seat and I downshifted into first, something came over me. At the end of a very brief test ride, I knew I had to have a bike. It was a very weird feeling. By the following week, I had a bike - a used 80's era MIJ cruiser that started me down the road of moving from bike to bike, increasing engine displacement and buying more recent bikes as I went.
It all culminated with a new Honda VTX - my first new bike, which I sold after 2 years to buy a 10yo Harley UC
OK, so I stepped back in years, but stepped up in quality and comfort, imo.
Nice bike, too.
