Default How I got back into riding

I rode minibikes when i was 9yo and rode motorcycles from the time I was 17 to early 20's. In the end, I traded my Yamaha RD350 for some music gear, hoping to be the next Jimi Hendrix and gave up riding for nearly the next 25 years.

When my son turned 17, he wanted a motorcycle, but had never ridden one. He was a responsible kid and had saved his own money, so I accompanied him to look at a used 500cc sportbike. He didn't know how to ride, so I had to test ride the bike for him, though I hadn't been on one for nearly 25 years.

I remember saying something stupid to the owner like where's the kickstarter? Keep in mind, i had nothing to do with bikes... didn't look at them in shops; didn't read biker mags; nothing.

Anyway, i got it started and I climbed aboard. As soon as my axx hit the seat and I downshifted into first, something came over me. At the end of a very brief test ride, I knew I had to have a bike. It was a very weird feeling. By the following week, I had a bike - a used 80's era MIJ cruiser that started me down the road of moving from bike to bike, increasing engine displacement and buying more recent bikes as I went.

It all culminated with a new Honda VTX - my first new bike, which I sold after 2 years to buy a 10yo Harley UC OK, so I stepped back in years, but stepped up in quality and comfort, imo.

I have kinda the same story but not with my son and not as long a dry spell. Been riding 2 wheel machines ever since I was able to hold em up. Mini bikes, scooters, mopeds, dirt bikes and street bikes ect ect ect. I sold a bike for money so my kids would have a christmas way back when they were young. Then went about 17 years without. Bought the bike in the sig pic, rebuilt it and never looked back. Will get a newer one one day but not till this baby wears out.

Got back into riding after a 19 year hiatus. Never lost the feeling and have been back on 2 wheels for the last 2+ years at age 69+.

God bless, bro. Folks like you are my heros. I don't know if I'll be on 2 wheels or 3 in another 15 yrs, but I hope to be riding like you.

Nice bike, too.
