I still ride year round in Portland. In winter, it rarely freezes and there are always breaks in the weather every week that you can get out for a ride. Summers here are hard to beat; low humidity, 80-85 degrees, very dry, and you can't beat the scenery.....Coast rides, lush green Willamette valley, or a high desert ride on the east side of the Cascades...
I live on the Oregon Coast and yes, we can ride all year long. It does not have an effect on your political views. It is what it is, and that's all it is.
Oregon rules. My bike is never parked long. You are right about the scenery. It is gorgeous here. I've lived here over 35 years and will only move if I buy a second home in Mexico. Our summers are unbeatable.
I have to admit that I miss Oregon. I moved to AZ last Oct so my wife could have Cancer treatment and granted you can ride year round( I did it) but there is a definite difference in scenery. I came to Az from Oregon by way of a stopover in Reno for 35 years but I always go home to Or. for it's Green and beauty, and now that we are getting to 112 degrees I really miss the cool of the north.
Anybody coming to Oregon for some riding from out of state has a place to stay at my house in Oregon city. Nothing fancy, but it is free. Day rides or multi day trips are awesome. Too much to see in one lifetime. P.M. me and you are more than welcome to stay.

After a recent two week travel one week on Arizona and one week in New Mexico I appreciate the Oregon views. The weather in the desert is good but the view is crap sorry i'm just not into the desert. Just got home for father's day and realize how much i love the GREEN.
Where did you ride exactly, we have very diverse areas in both states it is not ALL desert. From your description it sounds like you just rode the interstates and didn't get into the heart of the state.
I've got the best of both worlds. I live up in the Arizona mountains. We have the warmth most of the year (it does get a bit cold from around mid Dec to late Feb) and we have the green also. Lots of forest up around Flagstaff and just a few miles from where I live.
I grew up in Seattle and have to agree it is beautiful up there for about 3 months out of the year, but between the traffic and weather in the both OR and WA, I'll stick with the southwest.
