hello everyone,
i recently purchased a 2004 sportster 1200r. the bike seems to run great except for the tachometer which doesnt work at all. Even the back light isnt coming on. the speedometer works fine. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to where is the best place to purchase a replacement tachometer for cheap. thanks alot
Is it a HD tach or an aftermarket add on? Congrads on the new bike, put 65k on my 01 Sportie and loved every mile. First lesson on owing a Harley:
1. there is no such thing as cheap when buying for a Harley, especially OEM parts.
2. Get a maintenance manual if yo plan on fixing stuff yourself, other wise big $$ at stealer, aka Dealer.
3. Troubleshooting tip- look at teh easy stuff first, always replace the cheapest part first, then go big after confiming all possibilites. Might just be a blown fuse or broke wire.
seems most likely that the power lead has come unplugged? since the light and tach are not working locate the connections and make sure they are all connected before purchasing a new tach maybe even go as far as using a continuity tester to test the leads and make sure there is not break in the cables anywhere
