Problem is that the ‘Stang is the wide-body 17” model. Sucker is huge. So even if I ride it – complete with backrest – it looks like hell on the bike, like a giant black pizza or something. Same as having a hot fatty for a girlfriend, might be a good ride but damn showing up in public sucks. I imagine the comfort upgrade is maybe 25 percent which would be important on a cross country ride, but the 400-mile round tripper this weekend? Hmm… tough call.

Any input, rants, putdowns cheerfully accepted. I’m in a good mood today so WTF…

I have a C & C seat with gel insert. Get one. You won't look like a dork, either.

Being an softail owner and having shopped for seats before, I beg to differ on that one. They either look good OR are comfy. All of tem. The stock seat is pretty much the best compromise you can find. I use mine almost exclusively, after finding out that 320lbs is just nor the right weight for a lepera barebones. Feels like sitting on a piece of plywood.

@Bjewell: I say function beats form. For a 400 miles trip, it would be the comfy seat all day.

I suppose my answer would be "Depends how bad your discomfort is". Or more specifically...do you get REALLY uncomfortable due to something like blown disks or other bad lower back ailment? If so...comfort would trump style in my book.

Nah, it's my knees that suck. And I put the rack on the back and loaded up the sleeping bag. I'm off to my old home place. Thanks all for your advice.

You got that right. When I was younger, looks were always more important but these days comfort definitely reigns.

Don't knock the fat chicks: "Yeah, she's ugly but she sure can cook!"

You know what fat chicks and mopeds have in common? They are both fun to ride till your friends see you on one!
