I highly disagree though, that the FXDC is the most bang for your buck. I think the sportster still holds that honor, but that's my opinion.
I'm probably pretty different though, from most HD riders you will find on this forum.
Superglide is the most bang for the buck. Lowest priced big twin. More HP. More Torque. Larger tank More miles covered before you need to stop for gas. A much More comfortable ride. Better suited for two up riding. And has better lean angles then sportsters (and softails) which means faster on the curves. 6 speed transmission.
I will say that a sportster gets those without a lot of money on a Harley with a v twin and that Harley sound and a good looking bike.
My firs t Harley Davidson was a 2003 1200C, 30,000 miles and I never looked back an it is still in my shop, I ride it OFTEN!!! Bought a 2008 FXDL new and have 16,000 miles on it. Am 62 years old and just can't bring myself to look at a touring bike.
Most of my rides are 350 to 400 miles on a Saturday or Sunday and if I want the thrill of the twists and turns, I climb on the Sportster, If I want the THRILL of the ride, I always ride the DYNA.
I wanted a new sportster custom till I test drove it. then test drove a fatbob. fxdf felt and rode much more comfortable to me. i ended up finding a slightly used fxdf 2008 model with 198 miles was able to buy it for less than the new sportster was gonna cost after adding a few necessities. fxdf is good around town and 2 up for an all day ride. looking forward to long trip in the fall when it cools down some
What is with this comfort thing, if you want to cruise in comfort then drive your car, get the sporty and live the dream, im not saying everyone should think this way, but you cant decide so obviously you want to ride not go on week a long cruise to nowhere and back. I can easily do a 7 hour ride on a sportster, but in saying that im not scared of some little aches at the end of the day, i just love to ride, and i love the fact of having to ride it not just sit on it, its not called lounging, its riding, there's my opinion, ha ha
