Default Just wondering...

The wife and i were out yesterday for a ride in southern Az. and there were alot of bikes on the road due to the weather. Oh sorry to those with less than riding weather...but as each group of bikes went by i noticed how different each bike sounded. Some i am sure with the same exhausts, and got to thinking...what does my bike sound like to them. We stopped in Tombstone and met a guy i work with, who has been riding as long as i have (since we were kids) and asked him to take mine for a ride and explained why i wanted him to do so. I now know what my bike sounds like to others which is entirely different than what i hear when riding it. I also took his for a ride for him to hear and we talked about it for bout half an hour afterwards, both commenting on how different they sounded. Anyone else done anything similar? It was kind of strange....as on the way home we stopped for gas and again was talking to others and not a one of them actually knew what their bike sounded like. Guess my mind works in strange ways or i was enjoying the ride and not thinking about work or other probs. Anyhow this was just an observation.

Default RE: Just wondering...

there are alot of factors in the 'sound' a bike makes- most of which are the obvious (engine size, compression, heads, pipes, baffles, tuning, length of pipes, etc)

however, with every bike ive owned (and its been alot), i always have had friends do 'fly by's' so i can hear what it sounds like.
