However, putting a TC motor/trans into an earlier frame or vice-versa seems like a lot more work than anyone would want to go through. It would take re-manufacturing the entire bottom of the frame, which is before you worry about the rubber mounts. Of course it can be done, but why?

If he was intent on doing that he should find an Evo RK and start from there. Then all he'd have to deal with would be the differences between the Shovel FLT mounts and the Evo ones. Still more trouble than it's worth IMHO.

LOL the JD is for the creative stage not the making sparks part , most never notice that after somebody finds the Jack in the freezer I quietly put the tools away but still look busy . Learned that years ago , 3 buddies showing up to help bondo a frame with Tequila and mushrooms makes for a real ugly morning after and a chipping hammer .

I haven't had hands on with the twinkies yet so I'll follow your lead there but I have done some creative frame work on a number of older bikes limeys & a few jap as well HD's , I don't care for the later years stamped box frames so I pass on them .

your stuck with the current trans and primary.if you use an evo motor mount,a 74" shovelhead lower should mount in the same, use what ever top end you want, knuckle, pan, shovel ..a slabside lower end will probably mount in pretty easy too but you will have to make a custom inner primary because the gen cases didnt have the alternator clearances..eather way you will need custom pipes or to make some kind of exhaust hanger for the older pipes..i think there will be plenty of clearance.the problem was putting newer motors in older frames

But I guess the big question for me anyway is why do it, why ***** up a sweet knuckle, pan or shovel by putting it in a twin-cam or evo frame.

Man just not right in my books.

The man does have a point . Seen any of the new S&S retro Knuckle motors yet ? You can get a nice running bike for what they want for one . The shovel to evo swap up does have some advantages for the custom guys done a few different configs for people , you lean more towards the purest type bike which I can totally respect after some of the clowned up stuff I've had to unscrew over the years .

As others have said, why not just get an older Evo Road King?

That's what I love about Pre-Twink frames is that a guy can swap from an Evo, Shovel, Pan or Knuck fairly easily, the Knuck requiring a new upper mount available through Taiwan Ted. Think the next thing I'm gonna do to my Shovel is slap some Pan heads on the cone bottom end.

You'll have to find a Pan cam and put the shovel gear on to get the valve train right , but damn that looks good when done and running right
