The Amish buy the top of the line hunting gear, that is for sure....we have some Amish around us and it is nothing for them to have $1000 just into their archery gear
One of the posts I saw about this deer quoted the hunter as saying 'the deer returned to my corn pile'. Not to cast any aspersions here on a lucky hunter and incredible deer but is baiting allowed in Ohio?

It sure isn't here.
No bait pile technically allowed in Michigan either...but that starts a debate like synthetic vs. dino oil, or Carb vs. EFI.
Why is a pile of carrots baiting, but a small square food plot not? I understand the difference in disease transmitting, just being the devil's advocate here. Some could argue they both accomplish the same thing.
I am really sorry the baiting thing got so big in Michigan. My 1st 8 years hunting it wasn't an issue and I could get a deer on opening day before 9am every year. And I worked for it, going farther than anyone else in our camp.
Now...the deer are all nocturnal, 3 deer cams prove it...and I blame baiting. Some clowns go as far now to cover their illegal pile of carrots with a tarp at night to train the deer to only come during the day. Sorry, that's not hunting the way I learned it.
Some states like Texas permit baiting for deer..I think baiting is legal in Alberta, Manitoba as well....the only bait I use is a doe on the hoof this time of year
The picture in the first post is obviously not the Adams county deer referred to. It says in the article that the Amish hunter WOULD NOT allow his picture to be taken with the deer; as is their custom. It also says the deer taken by the Amish was a 33 point non-typical. As impressive as the deer in this pic is, it is not 33 points....more like 22-24 on the one in the pic.
Yes it's legal to bait deer in Texas but deer don't always go to feeders. where I hunt in Llano most of the deer are taken from traffic lanes. Generally jump fences at the same place. In Ohio it is illegal. To get around this my sons fatherinlaw just neglects to cut all his corn crop down and leaves patches. My son told me he is presently hunting an alfalfa patch, don't see much difference between that and a corn feeder.
