For me the best learning lesson is one that is gained from direct personal experience. If you really want to know, quit fu*cking around, fire it up, roll out and and see what happens!!

Best to leave the visor of your FF open when puffing so as not to smoke yourself out. Also best to light the cigar before you put on your helmet as the helmet lining is flammable and it's hard to look cool while your helmet is on fire and your running around screaming hysterically. It's also best if you can avoid screaming like a little girl or grimacing when the lit portion of the cigar comes off in the wind and burns its way through your shirt to your skin. Screaming or spasming while trying to put it out would totally ruin the whole Hannibal Smith/A-Team look. Riding with long hair and no helmet and a cigar is also not recommended for the same reasons of increased risk of fire.

If you're riding around town, not much of a problem. On the highway is a different story. Even though I have a detachable windhield, I decided against putting it on before I left since the weather was so nice. I fired up a cigar and headed to bike night across the river 30 miles away. About half way there without warning, I couldn't see out of my left eye. Apparently, I was paying far too much attention to the road instead of my ash and it had blown up underneath my sunglasses. The rest of the ride to bike night was long and spent a good portion of the night wiping my eye.
