They are asking $15K for it, but new 2011 ones (with upgraded motor) go for 18K... they say it's because of all the extra chrome the previous owner put on the bike. I think I should try to talk them down...
YES, you should talk them down or keep looking, chrome trinket add nothing to value. Bike that are SELLING are going for half way between trade and retail. Trade just under $10k and retail is $13,365, so $12k tops. No way it's worth over $13k.
Dude, get a StreetGlide and skip all the others before you wind up buying one eventually anyway
Not true for everyone. After two yrs of trying to like it , I recently just SOLD my streetglide and went BACK to a Heritage classic. I'm way more comfy on my Softail. And I'm 6' . Different strokes I guess .....
Where is this that new 2011 FBs are going for 13k? The sticker price around here is 17K+
In dreamland. There is a whole story that goes with lgenf getting such a sweet deal that he did not go into. That is defiantly not the norm and they just lucked out with that deal. If I was you and you really like the Deluxe or the Heritage I would give a look at Road Kings. You can pick up some really good deals on Gently used police models that are great bikes. Good luck to you and Renting one will be money well spent if a BMW is all you have ridden before. Totally different word, The fact that they both have only two wheels is about the only two things that Bmw's and Harley's have in common.

Well, I took your advice and looked to get a 2008+ Softail, but after looking over a bunch of bikes at a local dealership I really was drawn to a 2002 Fatboy with only 5k miles on it. The bike was beautiful with Tons of chrome, saddle bags, and a sweet custom flame paintjob. They are asking 13k, but I'm sure I can talk them down somewhat in price... maybe to 12 or 11, but I'll try for lower. What do you think about that deal? It looks like most 02 Fatboys out there are asking for like 9 or 10k. They had sold out of the Switchbacks, but should have another one in stock in time for my return visit.
Here's a better picture I took myself. Yeah, if they are willing to deal I think this bike would be a great purchase (still have to test drive it though). The only think I don't like is the the bike was also lowered a little bit, which from what I understand makes the bike a bit more still and uncomfortable over the long rides... but I don't speak from experience. Does it?
