That is ****ed up, I have ran out of gas once, but other than that I haven't had a breakdown yet. If you leave it stock you should be able to get 100,000 miles pretty much trouble free out of it. If you start messing with it, then they can become unstable.
+1......I've run out of gas once, but have never broken down on the road. I have 90k miles on my bike and I have done 95" big bore, cams, and head work. All things mechanical will eventually break down, but proper maintenance, inspection, and knowing how to trouble shoot, can lead to minimal problems with your bike. Of course, I prefer the simple HD's...........carb, throttle cables, and simple electronics. Too much complicated electronics going on with the new Harley's for my taste.
So U ran over a piece of metal and frigged something up and Ur saying U bike broke down...
Did U read in the owners manual where it said not to run over piece's of metal that can screw up Ur bike...
By the way broke down to me is when U have to push Ur bike or trailer it home..
And no its not normal,, 35k on our 07,,, NEVER once had she BROKE down...
Matter of fact, just last weekend we had our BIG charity ride of the yr. over 400 bikes in it. About 375 were Harley's.
Tolal of 4 Bikes broke down, during the 150 mile, 6 hr ride....
Guess what they were...
3 Honda's and 1 Suzuki had to be trucked
Plus about 15 out of the 20 or so Crotch rocket owners couldn't make it to end of the ride because of all the pains they where having and couldn't ride any longer.
..
I did pull out a huge steel beam from the engine. Maybe that was the problem you idiot. Seriously WTF DUDE!

I just read your post again and you are kind of a dick.
"Kind of a Dick" ?
This forum has more class, please use "*****" next time......
If my new bike broke down in the first year I'd be pissed let alone the first day.
It's almost a cliche on Harleys. They will never live dependabiliy issues down.
Just look inside the service department. There are more bikes there than on the showroom floor!

Southpaw Super Glide: A Left-Hand-Drive 1979 Harley FXE Built to Fit the Rider
I bought an 02' Roadking and put 49,000 miles on it with no issues. Traded it on an 08' Roadking and put 30,000 miles on it with only a flat rear tire.

I am trying to keep my sense of humor about this and its easy because breakdowns are just part of the Harley Experience as I have learned from these forums.
I decided against a extended warranty but now I am thinking maybe I should get it and the dealer did offer a discount and an extra year.
I guess this is just bad luck but the funny thing is when I was riding my new Harley I joked to myself about how long until the first breakdown?
HOW ABOUT ON THE FIRST FRICKIN DAY BITCH!! NICE!:icon_dance-cpatch:
I've owned a 1999 Wide Glide, a 2003 Road King Classic, and now a 2008 Street Glide. I've had very little problems out of them, and consider them all to be great bikes. Just normal routine stuff, oil changes, a tire here and there, that's it. Ride safe guys and gals!!
