I don't think anything's wrong with that but I'd make sure the deposit is refundable if you don't buy a bike. Make sure you use a charge card so if anything goes wrong, you can dispute the charge.

If you do make a deal, get the VIN so you you're sure the bike you pick up is the one you bought.

I would be iffy about buying such an investment sight unseen, but it is a new machine from a reputable dealership, so there should not be a problem. Besides, you have options. When I bought the Nightster, it was three hours away. I was swamped with work and could not go to take a look at it. I did, however, have a buddy that lived within thirty minutes of it. He took a look at the bike, test rode it, and gave me the report. Got the bike for a few thousand less than around here, and it has been a great bike! My advice, new bike, dealership, should not be a hassle, but to be safe post a thread in the touring section asking someone in the area to take a personal look, possible a test ride, and give you an honest report. Good luck with it, and post some pics when you get it!
