I bought a battery tender and put one on my FXDL yesterday. My battery was almost dead on it. I leave it plugged in for about 4 hours came out to check it and the AC pack was extremely hot. I also heard the battery making noises. I thought maybe it was boiling itself so I unplugged it. My battery is less than two years old in my FXDL.

Battery Tenders were never designed to bring a battery back from the dead.

But if you plug it back in now, with the charge it already has in it, it shouldn't get too hot again.

This happened to me for the first time yesterday. I had just finished my stage 1 upgrade and had the bike running on battery while flashing the ECM with the Power Vision. In total I was on battery power for about 15-20 minutes with lights on. After I was done I just plugged the tender back in as normal. When I walked into my garage 2 hours later I noticed the light was still yellow on the tender and it was really hot. I didn't want to let it sit overnight like that so I unplugged it and plugged it back in this morning. An hour later the light was green and everything seems back to normal.

Not really sure what it does to a battery other than sulfate it really badly which may take a few days to reverse but your accident may have took a few years off it. Got my wife a new car about 4 years ago. Had one of those green light battery monitors in it. She left the rear hatch door light switch on( some reason it does not time out like side doors) Drained the battery for a couple days. That battery lasted 3 years, was never quite right. I slow charged it for days and the light still was never green again.
