It is a 700 lb. CRUSIER and not a POWER cruiser. EPA requires performance hindering measures. A Race Tuner, different exhaust & air filter turn the Softail into a pretty quick bike. Any other performance enhancements are not really necessary. The top end you mention is strange because my stock 06 ran over 100 MPH before any engine work. In any event the Japanese ought to have something to suit your friend.
I bought a new 99 Flht, on our first trip out to Denver in july we were way down for passeing, my wife and I weigh in at about 425-435 together on the bike, so a little extra was in order I thought. Did a simple big bore kit, 203 cams and a 44 MM CVA Carburater, brought the bike right alive, been happy with it ever since.. Now the new ones come out with a 96 inch motor so i see no reason to touch it. I also bought myself a new superglide this year, a 2006, with the 88 inch motor and I'm quite happy with it for now..if I wanted speed I would look to a go fast Metric..if you want to pull stumps for a contest then go Harley. as has been stated, A harley is just a starting point anyway, walk around the shop and design your own bike from all the extras you can buy, when you buy a plain jane harley it is like a bare easel to a artist, someplace to start..have fun looking, buying, and makeing your new harley yours, thats what its all about.
Gotta be something more to the story...my 06 Bob was still pulling at 90mph with a passenger...and me hanging on for dear life...i kinda suspect a governor as was stated above......
That "riding impression" was posted by a Gold Wing rider on the Gold Wing Forum. It was in the Honda vs. Harley section, so there might be a little bias there.[sm=confused06.gif]
That would make sense... a governor would not be difficult to install. Personally, I don't see myself whizzing around town at high rates of speed anyway, and short trips would be the norm (100-200 miles max). It's just that, like all other things, one of my other concerns was about warrenty work and what dealers do when the bike is modified. I think I would leave it alone and keep that issue off the front burner for warrenty work for myself. It sounds like they have enough 'ooomph' for me. However, around here, not many dealers will let folks take one for a ride, and when they do, the line stretches from here back into 19-4gotten.
Thanks for the feedback !

Well I bought mine used with most of the stuff I wanted or so I thought on it already. No engine work here. If i wanted speed I'd have gotten a rice burner. I can't answer your question. But I think they want to have the best...
