Today I finally got back to Jay, Upper Jay, Keene and Keene Valley. What an incredible mess. They are still cleaning up and will be for the next year. The wall of water must have been 35-40 feet tall when it came down the river. Places I had fished for over 30 years are now changed or just gone. The sand and rocks are all over the place. I was going to take the camera, but after seeing the mess I don't think I could have taken pictures. I tried to find people that I have known in that area for years, but they were either not home or have finally just left the area. Some places looked like Joplin Mo after that tornado. The power of that water moved houses off foundations and boulders the size of cars all over the place. I have to give credit to the people who are staying, but the damage is just heartwrenching.
That said... people don't always recognize the awesome power of water! I love living near the water but I sometimes think it's safer to be several hundred miles from the nearest ocean...

You were in my neighborhood, Drat.
PM sent.
We are several hundred miles from the nearest ocean & even farther that that from some of the other oceans.
The hurt came because the mountains acted like a giant funnel & focused more water into brooks & rivers than they were designed for.
