I don't know this for sure but at a guess I would say it is because of the way 2012 models are wired - in that I mean they are not done in the traditional way but rather everything runs to a body computer and most likely has multiplexed wiring like newer heavy trucks where there are multiple signals running down the same wire. Chances are the bikes computer is doing this and it has nothing to do with the modulator.
harley makes a bike with a modulator built in, it's the police model. Personally I wouldn't have one of the darn things, too distracting for other drivers.
The only people that notice them ar the people that are paying attention, and most of them don't give two ***** anyway. The only time I really pay attention to flashing or modulating lights is when they are coming up behind me. If people can't see a 13 foot high, 8 foot wide truck with a bunch of lights on coming down the road then they sure as hell are not going to notice a motorcycle with a modulating headlight.
Take it off the 2012 and throw it in the trash please. Hell my dad that rides and is all about being safe even hates them. they are not going to save you, all they are going to do is **** everyone else off and make your bike look bad. If you are that worried about crashing then don't ride.
I won't deny anyone else the right to express their own opinion or experience, but mine is that I get a LOT more space from people turning left across me and/or from people waiting on the side to pull out on to my road.
The only time I almost bought it from a left turner was before I got my modulator. As you might have guessed, his excuse was "I didn't see you."
I'm only speaking for myself, but I haven't had a close call since installing the modulator.
