Default First 1000 miles

So after the first 1000 miles on the bike after buying it 3 weeks ago and waiting for the rain to subside enough for me to have any kind of enjoyable ride, I can say that the verdict is in and it's a keeper, it just needs some work.

I need to do some basic upgrades to the brakes and suspension, but I could never have done 150 miles at a time on straight highway on the Daytona 675 without hating myself afterward. The biggest thing I miss is the obvious performance difference, but I think with the brake system and suspension work and a 96" upgrade in the spring, it'll be where I want it. The other thing I really miss is having a 6th gear. Maybe one day I'll get a transmission with a 6th, but even riding at 80 isn't terrible enough to make me want to avoid the interstate.

Last weekend I did a 300 mile round trip to Morgantown, WV for a restaurant review and some WVU football with friends and this weekend I did a 300 mile trip up to Baltimore, MD and back down through DC into Gaithersburg to do a review of the Dogfish Head alehouse, for those that are familiar with the beer. 150 miles at a time isn't bad at all and with the touring seat that's on it, it's pretty comfortable. I bought a stock seat and will probably buy a lapera bare bones seat with the money from the reviews. I'll keep the touring seat and the backrest for trips so I can stow luggage, but I'm figuring that the solo saddle is going to be the primary seat on there and I'll swap it out with a stocker if I need to take any hot broads for a ride.

The last thing I'm currently debating on as far as looks go is the stash tubes. It has two of the large stash tubes, one on each side of the frame up front. They're either getting powder coated black or coming off completely. I do keep my papers in them though.

It only took me five miles to realize that she was a keeper but I know the feeling. I put 15,000 miles on the 03 in 03. The 98 was getting rode only once every two weeks or so but now I am back to riding both of them about the same.
