Actually, they are a company owned mostly by Harley. They use Harley motors on most of them and share the same controls but they aren't really Harleys.
1984 Erik Buell was a Harley engineer and racer. Buell builds his first motorcycle: the RW750 race bike:
changes in rules ban it from racing. All the bikes were built around a Harley Sportster engine.
1987 Buell RR1000 Battletwin launched: first Harley-engined Buell, fully faired bike.
1993 H-D buys an interest in Eric Buells' junk mototcycles.
1998 Buell sells additional 49% stake in Buell Motor Company to H-D, who now own 98%.
2001 The Firebolt XB9R is powered by a new 984cc force air cooled 45ďż˝ V-Twin engine that has been developed
by Harley-Davidson and Buell.
So Buell is a company that is owned by Harley Davidson.
Sounds like they are Harley Davidson motorcycles to me.
Had one. Liked it. Interesting thing is that when I was on it, EVERY rider who wasn't on a Harley would wave to me. Only about 5- 10 % (maybe ) of the Harley riders would. On my E-Glide, everyone waves back regardless of make they're riding. Funny one was a ZZ-Topper looking guy on a nice custom job who I usually met at the same intersection on the way to work each day. That bastard NEVER waved when I was on the Buell (or the Sportster for that matter). First day on the E-Glide, he acted like my best friend in the other saddle. I consider Buells a cousin of Harley, but hell, even Harley riders don't consider them Harleys. If my Buell was in the parking lot and I had said to anyone to go out to my Harley and grab something off of it for me and bring it back in, they probably would've walked by it a zillion times.

Yes Buell's are Harleys, Just as v-rods would be harleys, It's the motor company reaching out to different markets, Every business does this. Think about it why does sears sell so much stuff, or why when you goto a fast food resurant do they only sell burgers,

If it wasnt for the wife riding with me I would have one. I live for tight twisty roads and those things are made for that. When $$ allows I would like a lightning along side the dyna for a tosser fun bike.
