Absolutely. There are pictures in that book from the 1950's also where they're also wearing the same type of sweater. I don't know about vintage clothes myself, so I have no idea about that tag. The bar and shield logo goes way back, but like you, I suspect that the sweater is newer based on the looks of that tag.

Hi all,

As the owner of the sweater in question, i can confirm the item is from late 20's to late 30's.

It's hard for me to exactly pin-point the year. the tag present can be found on late 30's horsehide cycle champs and other jackets from the era, after which Harley changed their tag.

Just thought i'd throw that out there.

Side note not trying to solicit i do have more items 30's to 50's harley gear. Unfortunately no sweaters, these are the rarest to come by and especially in the condition this one is in.

Congratulations on the sale. That is a really nice item. A few years back when the economy was much better I won a rare and extremely nice Harley captains hat on eBay for $2000.00. What made it exceptional was not the great color and largest size available but the 16 rare pins on the cap. This cap belonged to an employee of Harley and it has the 20 year employee pin along with many rare pins from the 40's and 50's. One of the pins alone sold for $500.00 by itself last year on eBay. I think I need to list it and turn it back into some cash. Hopefully I will find a collector or museum interested.
