Default Minor Setback

Thought I would bring you up to speed. I had to lay my RG down in April when some knucklehead changed lanes on me...IN A TUNNEL! I was wearing full protective gear including full face helmet, and ended up with a broken left ankle. Surgery fixed that, and I recovered enough to go back to work full time as a cop. Then, I developed an infection at the site of my fracture, which necessitated removal of the hardware. Surgery was Tuesday, hardware was removed, and the bone looks good, no infection, and has healed very nicely. There is an underlying staph infection, so the incision has been left open. I have a small Grand Canyon on the outside of my left ankle. Pretty neat, you can see the bone and all! A nurse comes to the house twice a day to change dressings, and once it arrives, I will be put on a Wound Vac, a small vacuum pump that will close the wound. That plus enough antibiotics to kill most anything alive. I am ambulatory but will be carrying a "purse" with the pump in it. Recovery time for this is estimated 4-6 weeks.
Meanwhile, I lie around, and continue wrenching on the RG, pulling parts to be powdercoated black and repainted.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that! Hopefully your recuperation is complete, relatively pain free, and quick...

Hope you recover in time for a few more rides before winter. The up side is as a cop, maybe you can invite the guy that caused your downtime to the policemen’s ball.

Just be real careful about that infection. I would take no chances on it getting worse, follow doc's orders, be patient. The number one thing is healing right, all else is secondary. Thank gosh you didn't get hurt any worse. It's bad enough. Take care...

I have a boss at work that had a knee replacement done. He had to go in and have it all redone a second time because of infection. Hope you heal up fast.

I had a wound vac for a while, You are going to be amazed at how well that is going to heal. Good luck with your recovery and the bike.

I have always taken a lot of extra vitamin supplements when post surgery to facilitate faster healing. Seems to work for me. I recommend you do the same.

Hope you feel better.
