I'm the dumbass that nodded off on my Road King Friday a week ago. Just a quick update for anybody who cares! Doc says I don't have sleep apnea. I bought a 5 hour energy drink and have already tried one just to see how it affects me. Kept me awake is all I could tell! I'll be carrying one with me from now on. Shop says my bike will be ready to ride Thursday. Still won't have the new saddlebags or headers, but that's just cosmetic. No telling when the saddlebags will be in; I have the gun-metal blue 2003 Anniversary model, and Harley refers to any painted parts as "restricted." My indie told me that it could be two weeks or two months. Oh well, just one is broken, and I can lock it and still ride.By the way, I have Progressive Insurance. They were fantastic. Adjustor came to the shop, inspected, and wrote a check for $4,100.00 before she left. And left open for any hidden problems. Couldn't ask for more.
Glad to hear you'll be back on the road again soon. I fell asleep at the wheel once. Middle of the day on a bright, sunny, July day on our way to a family vacation. Too bad I was towing my dad's boat down a lonely interstate and totaled it out. He got a brand new party barge out of the deal though. 16 years later he still gives me **** about it. Never had problems falling asleep at the wheel again though, weird.
Kajunkruzer: I'm hoping my once was it! Not a fun experience. Glad you were okay. And be glad your dad is still around to give you ****! I lost mine 28 years ago, when he was only 66. If he was still here, I can guarantee you I would be hearing about this for a loooong time!!

If you haven't had a sleep study, there is absolutely NO way to know if you have sleep apnea or not.
I have it, and I've become a bit of an "expert" on the topic, I find I know more about it than most doctors who don't specialize in the disease.
Bottom line: Go get a sleep study, and tell any doctor that said you don't have it without getting you into a sleep lab that he is being negligent with your health.
I had NO headaches and NO obvious symptoms except slightly elevated blood pressure, and my sleep study shocked me when it proved that I have SEVERE sleep apnea. My health and what is left of my youth were the reasons I wasn't really feeling the symptoms like most people do.

I gotta concur with Mr. Parabellum: GET A SLEEP STUDY! It takes up one night of your life, and it can dramatically improve the rest of it.
I had one done 5 years ago (when I was 44! Shoulda done it sooner!). They outfitted me with a CPAP (Constant Positive Air Pressure) machine soon after. It helped, but I found it difficult to sleep with it, and my wife thought it was too loud. After a year, I was able to get my Doc to declare me "CPAP Intolerant", and that led me to undergo UPPP (Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) Surgery, and my insurance covered the vast majority of it, since the Doc said I needed to have it done! Granted, two weeks of slow recovery, not being able to eat anything really solid for most of that time, but the pain meds ROCKED! The long and the short of it that I am a VERY sound sleeper now, and I've drastically reduced the chances of having my wife find me dead in the morning. Do yourself a favor and get a sleep study ASAP!
