Mine was great at first. When I drove it off the floor. Then, as the miles accumulated, finding neutral was more difficult. Then I adjusted the clutch at the 1000 mile service. I also changed to Amsoil. Then neutral was easy to find. For about 1500 miles. Then I found it giving me just a little trouble. So, I adjusted the cable. It is good now with a little over 3000 miles on the bike. I believe it is a maintenance thing. Also, when I do the next service at 5000 miles, I plan on adjusting the clutch 3/4 of a turn rather than 1/2 of a turn just to compare how 3/4 compares to 1/2. Just to get to know my bike a little better.
I grab the shifter and do it by hand, real easy that way. Obviously that's not good for finding it at a light or such but I keep it in gear at the lights anyways.
The only time my bike is in neutral is when I start it. When I park, I thumb the kill switch to Off, then turn the ignition off. Before I start it, I thumb the kill switch to Run, I turn the ignition to run, apply the handbrake, pull the clutch, shift to neutral, then start the bike.
got 18k on the road glide (09) , never got any easier, until I put the redline high pressure fluid in, this made it a little easier, to find it, but I don't think its gonna get any easier than what it is now, as said before, reving the motor just a little, and feathering the clutch is pretty good.
no need for nuetral, by design... my Dyna won't go in to nuetral when running. I hit the kill switch, flip in nuetral and start her up again. So, is that the same with a 97 Dyna?
I don't have a nuetral light and slammed a buddies tail a while back.... Dyna's faster than his old sled... so no harm to me, but I don't trust Black to be in nuetral hence the ritual before I park.... on a hill.
I thought this was a problem with the tourers only, but you are saying you have a dyna with the issue? My 09 dyna 6 speed has never had a problem finding neutral.
Got 12K on my '11 Road Glide. I've given up trying to get it into neutral. Its not any easier now than new. At 5,000 mile service dealer told me that Harley made it that way because too many were accidently hitting neutral? WTF! I did find - after someone told me - that it is easy to find neutral as you are slowing down.
It's common. The more broken-in it gets, the easier it will become. If you feather the clutch just a tad, it will slip into neutral better in the mean time. I have 3,000 miles on mine now, and it's still a bit tricky.
+1. Mine is just now at 5k plus miles easy to get into neutral at a roll.
