That's the exact same message I received last week from a bike I'm selling on CL. These scammers are ruthless. I will only deal with cash and only local.....

That sucks, just trying to sell the bike because I am getting ready to go back overseas and have nobody to watch over it for me. Don't want it in storage either. Oh well, I know something will present itself soon.
Just curious. How does this scam work if you do nothing until you have received the money from PayPal? I have used PayPal successfully on EBay and also once selling an item on this forum.
I don't trust the guy's story but I might have fallen for using PayPal. If the money is put into your PayPal account and PayPal puts it into your bank account before you release the bike, what goes wrong?
They can call paypal and say they never got the bike and get the money back.Had a friend sell something on e-bay and the buyer said he put rocks in the box took the $500 back out of his account ,they told him the buyer is always right.

but they can only take the money out of your paypal balance. if you've already transfered the funds out of paypal, they can't take it back.

Yeah that's what I thought. I never ship or deliver an item until the money is in my personal private bank account. Of course that may work both ways in that if you are the buyer you may not be able to get your money back if the product is not as advertised. I had this happen on an EBay purchase and EBay took care of it. Never had to test PayPal.

I've seen scams like this almost word for word. They're always in the armed forces, so you feel like you wanna do good for them. Also seen seller scams, where the bike is always at some shipping "terminal" and they're awaiting your check. Shame that with something so wonderful as the internet comes scams & ripoffs en masse. When I sell a bike my ad reads like this:
"Local pickup only;cash;no checks of any kind,DON'T EVEN ASK! No test rides;money back guarantee if you find any issues within the first hour of taking delivery! I don't trust NOBODY--I wouldn't even take a check from the Pope!

Here's a Paypal.com link that will take you to Google . . . see how easy that is? You have to look at the URL Address line when you get to the website to know if it is legitimate (and even then it can be tough to tell). I can make any text a link to any website. This link takes you to a really cheesy Motorcycle Forum!
