I have never dealt with buying/selling things on CL, I currently have my bike posted locally for sale. Have been contacted by one guy that is somewhat persistent and I am having a hard time telling if it is legit or some type of scam. Anybody in here that has dealt with selling stuff on CL be able to give an opinion on this for me. Here is a copy of the last email I received from him. I know that it is my bike and sale, but some advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!
Thanks for your swift response, I'm seriously interested in buying
this for my Father, your asking price is quite reasonable and
affordable considering others I've seen lately, I'll take it. I would
have loved to come check it out my self but I am currently on TDY
from 10/8 to 12/12 as Navy instructor for new recruits. I won't be
able to leave the TDY until 11th of November. I however squeezed out
time to check this posting as all personal dealings are highly
restricted here, i really want this as a surprise gift for my Father
so i won't let him know anything about this until it get delivered to
him and due to the fact that phone calls making are restricted......i
will be paying you with my PayPal account because it's attached to my
bank account and its safe and very secure way to make payment. If my
mode of payment is accepted just send me your paypal email
address,(Paypal ID) so i can pay in right away. I have a private
courier agent that will come for the pick up after payments has been
made, so no shipping included. I'll need your name, the pickup address
or location and please include your PayPal email address for the
payment and send me some recent pictures if available And if you dont
have a paypal account, you can easily go to www.paypal.com and sign
up.
its very easy. I await your reply asap
I kind of figured, I knew that it had been tried through western union, but not paypal. Just didn't want to go with the gut on this one, was banking on the factor that there is still honest people out there. Appreciate it, thank you! I actually feel a bit stupid for having asked, but you never know.
The link for the paypal in the email us bogus. It will bring you to a fake paypal and it will copy your login info. They will then steal everything from every account you have. If someone wants to pay you with paypal, give them your I.d. only and have them put money into your account. Then make sure it clears.

The link is not a bogus link, I followed it but didn't give them any info. That is part of the reason that I wasn't sure if this was legit or not. Little a-holes are getting quite crafty.
And I get to check off another box in the reasons not to trust people box. I miss the days of dealing face-to-face with people. Thanks again for the advise guys!
