Couple things i thought were funny happened this past week while on my bike. Share your stories you think would have been different if you were just in a car.
Friday i had stopped at a 7-11 to get something to drink. As im about to leave i sit on the bike, and notice a mom and little boy, probably about 5 years old, walking up to the door. The little boy is looking at me and covering his ears, lol. Mind you the bike wasnt even running yet, and they pulled up after i was already there so he never heard it the first time. Must be instinctive: motorcycle = loud.
Then Sunday night me and my girl when out to eat. Pulled up right out front of the restaurant and when we walked in the hostess asked if we were going to the bar. Weve been to this place an few times before just in my car and were never asked that.
When it's this time of year and cooler temps are setting in, I use my EXO-100 helmet with the flip down half shield and a neoprene all black face cover. Forgot I had it on and walked into the bank to make a deposit.....excitement entailed!!
I was sitting at a stop sign with a car between me and some random dyna rider infront of me. He must of bought the engine that doesn't stay running at an idle because he was blipping his throttle every couple of seconds.
Going home from work when all of a sudden feeling intense pain around neck then on my back. I knew pretty quick I was being stung by something. Got the bike stopped somehow, bailed off, running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, pulled off helmet, pulled off shirt, by then finally no more pain...whew! Put everything back on went on home. Next day co-worker said I had several people who saw the whole thing and had a heck of a laugh. I guess it should have been on video as when I think about it ...it had to be damn funny for sure! Just wish it wasn't me!
Had a pretty bad wreck early this summer -- small pickup ran the stop sign at a freeway off-ramp, and stopped right in the middle of my lane. 'Twas a rural highway, so I was cruisin'. I swerved hard and managed to avoid hitting him head on, but got caught up in the gravel still in the middle of the road, and went down at about 55. I came apart from my bike a short second or two later, and bounced down the road like a football. Were it not for my leather, I'd have a been a hail of a lot worse off than just a few busted ribs.
I was recounting that experience to a friend a month or so later, after he asked me if I'd been on any interesting rides lately (I was still nursing the ribs...) After I ended the story by singing praises to my leather, he remarked, "Wow, and I thought all that black leather stuff was just for show..."
Me and two buddies were riding to Montreal, we stopped at a Wendy's and this kid about 10yo. runs out of the Wendys and straight to my bike and wraps his arms around the (bug covered) fairing and starts kissing it repeatedly. Were were like WTF and laughing our asses off. His dad came out and pulled him off.
Was driving through my neighborhood and two small children were playing in their front yard with toy guns. They both started "shooting" at me as I rode by. I put my hand on my chest and feigned being shot. The boys then waved at us with big smiles and that's when I noticed mom laughing on the porch.
i was stopped at one of those pull-off areas where there's a place to park & check out a scenic view in new paltz, ny a couple of weeks ago.
as i was standing by my bike fumbling in the bags or having a drink from my thermos, 2, maybe 3 cars with families pulled in looked at me & pulled right back out & left.
