Well, not very happy. Rode a couple of times today and both times like a complete pu$$y. Got no idea what got into me. Can’t get that damn droppage outta my mind. Am way too nervous, drove way too defensively, had no confidence, took corners way too slow, to the point where I was not maintaining a good equilibrium.

Man, I got no damn idea what’s gotten into me. Was totally paranoid. Drove too near the damn white line to the point where cars were overtaking at one point. Then I got back into the damn road, or more into the middle of it. Then started going too slow.

Finally, on the second ride I just stopped and got off. Took a breather and tried to figure it out. I’m not generally like this at all. Actually I’m sort of the opposite. Like if I take a spill kite surfing or something and get hurt, I just get an attitude and get more aggressive. Can’t figure it out.

A friend of mine did work my head over a little this morning about the droppage and told me about a couple horror stories about accidents etc. But that didn’t really effect me. My back is hurt a little and I’m a little timid about making real sharp movements.

Anyhow, this crap had better sort itself out by tomorrow. Maybe it’s my mind subconsciously protecting my back or something. Gawd knows. It’s not like I had an accident, it was just a stupid drop.

Any of you guys get a little nervous after your spills? Maybe I’m just inexperienced, hell, only been on a bike a couple weeks now. Last time was when I was a kid and that was only a few times. Hope that’s it.

Do you want to sell your bike real cheap?[sm=icon_stickpoke.gif] just kidding.
I did that surfing one time I got a concusion from my own board and it took me three months before I could feel comfortable in big surf again. Your experience sound's less tramatic you will be over it soon.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Again, I call Bull sheet. I have a friend that rode MC's for over 50 years, mostly HD's and never had a accident or went down. He is now in too poor of health to ride. Sold his bike and is in his 70's. I remember him as a young kid watching him ride by with his leather cap. Little did I know someday I would be working for him. We had a long talk about MC's, and he told me how fortunate he was he had never been in an accident OR layed his bike down. He did tell me that I could expect to have it happen and odds are I would. Let me add this guy rode on cross country trips and was not your weekender rider. He was a true biker, and rather you want to believe it or not, NEVER layed his bike down. So, it may be rare and unlikely, but it can and does happen. I have been riding for 30 years, and knocking on wood, I have yet to lay it down. I have been close and very lucky, but never down. That said I am now pissed because I suppose I am now jinxed! So the saying you WILL go down is BS. Might be likely, but not absolutely.[:@]
Yeah I don't really like the "It's not if but when you drop it" school of thought.I can't let myself think that way or it'll happen.

Haven't yet and hope I never do....what gives me the creeps are those Jiffy Stands ......I start out with the mindset that the aren't to be trusted at all and always give it an extra forward kick and rock the bike back slightly to be sure the Jifffy stand's stable before getting off my ride.

There are only two kinds of bikes in the world, those that have been down and those that are going down!
No the saying is Riders, not bikes.

My first bike was a Honda CBR600F. I dropped it a handfull of times and laid it down twice. I've learned my lesson and two bikes later havn't had a spill since.

Right. I told a newbie with a Fatboy to get engine guards cause it would eventually get dropped. He then proceeded with ten minutes of drivel about how the 03 Fatboy kickstand is designed to guarantee you can never drop your bike cause you forgot to put it down.

Of course there will always be the turnip truck passengers who think this can never happen to them. Or that THEY will NEVER drop their bike.

I think the real point of that "old" saying is that not everybody is bullet proof. What's most important IF you drop your scoot is that you get back up, dust your embarrassed but still living azz off and climb right back on that sucker and ride it home. I rode 50 miles (after I missed that one turn) with a bent to crap crash bar and dangling front fender... was I embarrassed? a little, but I was a heck of a lot madder about the $750-$1000 it was gonna cost me cuz I was a little careless going into a corner... HOPEFULLY I won't ever make that mistake again.

Ride safe and keep it between the lines (especially that one!) and if something bad should happen just learn from it.

Sure. Check back in 40 years. If they ride that long, it will happen. This is a pretty good bet, or I suppose you loose at poker? If I had quit after 15 years then I would have been golden too - no drops.

I was in the same condition when I dropped the Buell during my Riders Edge Course. We were doing quick stops and I mashed the front brake to hard and went down. The instructor came over and asked if I was ok, I responded "Yes I am, thank you, was that stop quick enough for you?" After that we got the bike back up and I was scared of turning and stopping for a little while. I just forced myself to do it like I was doing before the fall and I quickly regained my confidence. I guess the old saying of "When you fall off a horse get back on" has some merit. I still like to go up to the High School parking lot and practice the skills even now, it builds confidence in my ability and the bikes ability.

You might want to try that on the weekend at a school near you. Set up a small course and practice some skills and if you've never taken one, take the Riders Edge course it is worth the money and builds confidence. I use tennis ***** cut in half as my cones for the course I set up.
