Had a wide glide and now a fatboy and the fatboy is WAY smoother than my dyna was. The dyna was a lot of fun and handled a little better but as far a comfert goes the fatboy wins hands down
Im going to disagree.
My 10' Fat Boy didn't ride anywhere near as nice as my 11' FXDC. In my experience the Dyna wins hands down for comfort. However...If you are riding more two up I would go with the Fat Boy. My FatBoy handled two up much better than my Super Glide C.
The OP mentioned a concern about riding like a ridged. Umm..NO! They are not harsh at all.
What are your 'something else' rides going to include? If you are cruising the blvd's, short jaunts down the highway for a visit, go with the fatboy. If you are going to carve mountain roads or wish to have a chance to catch up with that pretty girl on the sportster who leaves you in traffic every day, then go with the dyna.
I traded my Dyna for a Fat boy and haven't looked back. I average 300-400 miles a trip
,mostly two up I toured the North of England last spring clocking up 2000 miles in a week. I could never have done that on a Dyna. My bike is stock with only the touring pad and detachable back rest. For me it's got to be the Fat boy. Best thing is to test ride yourself to get a general feel.
While I love my Dyna, I've always heard softails give you the more comfortable ride. You can see here from those that have riden both what their takes are. In the end, you have the Bagger for touring...why not get something that's sportier for those weekend rides in the twisties? That would be my take.

Don't you all understand that you need a regular Softail, chopped Softail, at least one Dyna, especially a CVO Springer, a 48 Sportster, Street Glide, Road Glide, Road King, certainly an Ultra Limited, and let's say a V-Rod Muscle for those who would complain if I didn't include it?
Now, of course we also need a Flathead, Knucklehead, Panhead, and Shovel at the very least. OK, I'd check out a TriGlide.......................
To that, I'd add a Baja 100, the Cafe Racer 1000, Duo Glide, 750 flat tracker, a Model K Sportie..................................
I'm tired. You guys come up with the rest of the best...
