I think it's perfectly OK to bro your mechanic with a six pack of his favorite beer from time to time, (it' a nice way to let them know you appreciate a job well done) but crossing his palms with cash for a job he is being paid well to perform is kinda creepy.
If the mechanic isn't making a better rate, that's between him and the shop for which he works. Not my problem and it isn't my job to subsidize his poor employment decisions.
Oh don't worry I never expected a customer to top up my wage. And I did take it into my own hands, and now I run my own Mechanic truck.
Yep. I tipped my mechanic one time when I walked into the shop and caught him napping in his office. Man was he pissed. Chased me for two blocks before he finally gave up.
"Serviced"? I dust off my pants and clean up the empty oil bottles and rags after my bike gets serviced. never had a mechanic work on one - it's a Harley.
Same here except I work on the OLs bike...she tips me very nice!
At $100 per hour at the dealer and $75 per hour at the independents, I don't think a tip is necessary. Now if the mechanic stayed late so he could finish my bike while I waited, or came in on his day off to finish so I could ride that day, then I would consider a tip.
Everything I have ever had the Dealer do for me, was less than perfect in the way they did it, I have had to go back more than once. If they changed a part for a removable backrest or something, they kept the original parts and did not offer them to me. I had them install the Vance and Hines pipes and the PCIII when I bought the bike. I had to ask them for my original pipes, and never did get the computer cord for my Power Commander. They kept original bolts, backrest parts, etc. Tip GIVEN in free parts!
Once I realized that they kept these parts and did not provide them to me, though they were MINE, i quit going there.
Kind of like a local restaurant here that charges $8.95 for a cheeseburger that comes with chips. If you ask for the cheeseburger and fries or tater tots, you get charged the $8.95 for the burger and chips and another $2.95 for the fries or tots. AND you don't get the chips you paid for. I quit going there too!
So some of you guys tip mechanics. Really? Seems like a thing Mercedes drivers might do.
I've never taken a motorcycle to a mechanic, but I don't think I'd tip.
KBFXDLI even tips at McDonald's - I'm calling BS on claiming the"standard" for tips to waitresses recently got somehow rasied to 20%.Never heard that one before, anywhere.
Probably a lucky thing for you, that you do the tip AFTER you get your food! (I was a waiter once!)
