Default PGR question

Ok all you PGR folks...

I'm going on my first mission tomorrow.

Do you guys really wear jeans and a tshirt to the funeral? I feel disrespectful doing so, but at the same time I don't want to wear a suit on my bike.

Is there any advice you would give a newbie? I have read the FAQ's now like 10 times, so I'm ready for a written test

I'm feeling a bit out of place since I never served. I'm sure all will be just fine, but I hate being the confused guy [&:]

Thanks,

Trust me.
Wear your standard riding apparel and vest. You do have a vest?
The family will be glad you are there.
Jeans or no.

Don't worry about what you wear, wear what you nomally would to ride. You are being respectful, just by being there. You will most likely be outside showing your support for the family. Bring a tissue, it is emontially draining, but well worth the effort. There will be a bunch of the nicest people you will ever meet. The last one I was at, we stopped at a place to eat, we had a few people that had driven by the funeral home and saw what we were doing. they came up to us while we were eating to show their support for what we do. You will be fine. Thanks for supporting our troops.

Ride safe,
04HB

Rhubarb; first, thanks for joining/supporting PGR! Second, don't worry about what you wear.........PGR is at these services by specific invitation of the families. They know who we are and what we are. What we wear is not important to the families; that we are there IS! They have asked us to be there to help them with their grief, and so their (and our) hero gets the respect and honor they deserve! I would suggest you wear your "typical" biker attire, please refrain from wearing a t shirt that might be considered offensive, but otherwise, wear what you would normally on your bike. IF you have a 3x5 flag, please bring it! The sea of American flags is very comforting to the families. They have come to expect it. They, and the communities look forward to seeing the bikes, and especially the flags. Brace yourself..........you will cry! You will cry a lot! But you will also feel a pride you have never felt or seen. You will have a sensation you couldn't possibly imagine. You will see a very grateful family come up to you and hug you, and thank you, and even salute you for what you're doing for them, for their fallen hero, for America. Take a great deal of comfort in knowing the spirit of more than 68,000 members of the Patriot Guard Riders are with you shoulder to shoulder as you honor this hero. As you will come to know, everyone of us rides every single mission every single time their is a mission to ride. The fact that you never served has no bearing on any of it! The fact that you are there to show your support and respect to one of America's heroes has everything to do with it! Let the Ride Captain know you are on your first mission, pay attention, everyone will help you out. Thanks again for being with us!

Hey now, stop that! First off as a disabled veteran I don't care if you ever served or not. Thank you, Thank You from the bottom of my heart for attending the funeral of a fallen veteran brother. Thank you very, very much. Wear what you want, the guest of honor will not complain.

Rhubarb - just go and be yourself. I know that it seems strange to be going to a funeral in standard riding togs, but that's kind of what it's all about. We show that we are who we are and we respect the fallen hero and grieve for the loss. It is an emotional time

Thanks,

You can not describe the feeling as when you get hugged by the family while you stand there in your leathers holding a flag.

You could be really daring and wear a banana hammock......

Keep in mind you won't actually be participating in the funeral itself, you will either be standing with a flag as the friends/family walk to pay their respects, or be holding flags up to keep the protestors away. Either way, the families will be more than appreciative you are there, and aren't going to care if you aren't in a suit.
