No nostalgia here. The new engines fire exactly the same, but you got a chip keeping the firing smooth. More precise valve operation also.

It's been around forever. I first heard about it decades before I got a Harley. I hade a '68 mustang that I rebuilt the 289 V-8, installed a hi-po cam that caused the engine to lope at idle and I purposely set the idle on the Holley carb way down to get more potato, potato out of it. I was very pleased to learn that my Harley did it all by itself.

People can we stop calling TC's, "Twinkies" it just sounds gay. We could just call it "the good motor".

Random Guy: What year is your bike?

HD owner: It's a 09

Random Guy: has that got a EVO engine?

HD owner: No it has "the good motor"
or

HD owner: No, it's a "TC96"
or

HD owner: No, it's a Twinkie"

see, sounds gay. IMHO

Sometimes people turn down thier Idle speed to low to get the classic sound...what they don't relize is there is little or no oil pressure and they are causing engine damage

I'm home with the flu, it's been snowing and raining all morning so I just went into the garage and fired up my carb'd twinkie.

Harley's don't need oil pressure at idle. They do have plenty of oil flow, and they are running under a no load situation. That myth has been around as long as we have had EFI. My buddy's and I have been idling our bikes very low for years without problems. Your mileage may very.

Quote from wikipedia:

"Twink" is a gay slang term describing a young or young-looking gay man (18–23 age category) with a slender, ectomorph build, little or no body hair, and no facial hair.[4][5] In some societies, the term chick or chicken is preferred.[6] The related term twinkle-toes, which implies that a man is effeminate, tends to be used in a derogatory manner.[7] The terms can be complimentary or pejorative.[8][9]

Still want to use "twinkie"

Sorry OP don't mean to jack your thread. It just bugs me

The original nickname of the Twin-Cam was supposed to be "Fat-Head" .. what ever happened to that? I don't like "twinkie" either.
