I have a radar detector in my cage, and it has saved my a** many times. I got stopped once by an unmarked car, and the radar detector never went off, so I knew he had not clocked me. He let me go, and I believe it was because he didn't have a working radar unit in the car. I don't speed as much on the bike. I ride a whole lot more conservatively than I drive. One night, on the interstate I was doing 85 in my car (speed limit was 70) and a crotch rocket went past me doing at least 95-a couple of miles down the road a cop had pulled him over and was writing him up. I bet he slowed down after that!![sm=goodidea.gif]
S.A.
A few years ago my best friend got stopped in his 66 427 Vette at around 3AM. He was on his way home from work and doing something north of 90mph at the time. Said the first he knew that anyone else was on the road was when all the lights started flashing in his mirror.
So he pulled over and waited for the cop to come over. When the cop came to his window he said "OK let's see your pilots license. Well Bob knew he was screwed and figured what the hell and handed over his pilots license. He's a captain for United Airlines and flys 767/777's for them.
The cop took no more than three steps back to his car, spun around and asked "what the hell is this?"
Smart a$$ Bob said, "it's my pilots license?"
Cop nearly blew a head gasket, flung the license into the car and said "that's the last time I use that Fing line, now get the hell out of here, and slow down."
Try just cruising the speed limit or a hair over to get used to it.When I feel the need for speed,I feel pretty confident that I can get away with ti because I have check all around me and my burst only takes a few seconds. In my case it is all about acceleration.Jump onto an interstate for a while and let it all hang out.Have fun and Good Luck.In over 40 yrs. never a ticket on a bike.Cars and Hot Rods
that is another story.

This is something that takes a lot of discipline to control which I've been trying to learn my whole life. I seriously REALLY love acceleration but you gott'a be cool about it. Find the right place for a nice burst and get back out of it. The longer you stay speeding the better chance of getting caught. The Suzuki I have was the fastest production made in 1978 and it's a hoot to redline through the gears!
Around here they really don't seem to mess with the bikers too much as long as you don't exceed around 10 over the posted limit. I haven't seen a cop in a school zone in years. I really try to keep a look out for them and try to stay in the middle or outside lane on the freeways. The fuzz around the beltway will find a bend or dip then park it on the inside shoulder and stand next to their bike or between the car and k blocks and hit you with the laser. They'll just step to the edge of the road and wave you down, sometimes they work in pairs one clocking and one writing tickets. If you are in the inside lane you are hosed. If you are in the middle or outside there is usually a car or to to block you so they cannot get a direct hit. Gives you a little time to slow her down. The nice advantage is that a motorcycle can decelerate much slower than a car.

Around here they typically don't even chase you unless they are Motto Cops, then they'll just tell you to slow down when you get to a light or something. That is if your not weeving in and out of traffic like a tard.
