Default Riding during the holiday season..

This is old news: There are more accidents during the Christmas Holiday season, and more drivers are driving impaired. The only reason I am bring it up, is that this might be a time you might want to choose to not ride, or if you do ride, be selective where you ride (maybe somewhere away from the congestion and shopping areas) This may be an non-issue to some due to the ice and cold, but here in AL it's supposed to top 70 degrees today

Be safe

The four deadliest days on the road were also July 4, July 3, December 23, and December 24, considering all years together from 1975 to 2002. http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/809855.pdf

Been riding all through the holiday season. I stay away from major retail areas and malls, because there are too many distracted, self-absorbed drivers rushing around to get shopping done. Drivers are NOT looking for motorcycles this time of year...at least not in MA where I live. When they see you, they look surprised. I will not be riding on Dec. 24 or Dec. 31 however. There are just too many stupid people out there in cars, and I don't like the odds. Of course, a Christmas morning ride (while my grown-up kids sleep in) sounds pretty good...

I usually do a Christmas Day church ride and a Snowball Run on the first but both are early in the day when the majority of people are still in bed or at least semi-sober.

this time of year I take the long way home and travel the back roads. I stay away from the retail strips and idiot shoppers. The morning commute isn't bad, but going home it is darker now and people are far too worried about saving $5 on a television to be concentrating on driving. You almost have to wrap yourself in lights and ornaments for them to MAYBE see you right now!

I find no fun ridding in a commercial area with a bunch of distracted wimons driving SUV's and talking on the cell. My point at this time of year it's worse then usual, so my rides will be somewhere away from that crap.
