I have replaced the jackshaft on my starter,was grinding and hard to start,also replaced entire ignition,it had over heated and was fried,replaced stater and voltage regulator,and battery,also removed cleaned and rebuild kit in carb.,new spark plugs too.bike ran like new ,for 2 days,third morning went out to shop,started up fine,opened gate got on bike went about 5 feet and it died,try and try to rtestart no success.push back in shop get in truck go to work,afternoon get home go out to shop bike fires right up?ride around about an hour no problems.
next morning go out same routine same results .afternoon same thing starts right away.wtf???????/

any body have an idea? btw full tank of gas petcock open.
It does sound like an ignition module. You can also take the tank off and check the wiring to make sure a wire isn't rubbed through and grounding out. Especially that grey wire that runs from the harness up to the on/off switch. While the bike is running gently tug and pull the wiring harness at different points to see if the bike will shut off. I did have an 87 Softail that had a tankfull of rust. The rust would eventually clog the in tank filter and the bike would shut off. let it sit and the rust fell off the filter and it would start again.
