The folks at HOG are there to help us enjoy our motorcycles. Part of that is understanding the issues that could keep us from riding like we wish. Overly loud pipes are an issue that we are all going to be dealing with in the future. The best way to deal with it is to have us police ourselves. We do not want big brother involved any farther in our lives.
LMAO... don't think they make a meter to measure the sound of a whining woman yet. It's like after 30yrs I don't even pay attention to it anymore.
It's the same for the short dick guys and the over the top loud pipes just like a nagging wife for them it all kinda blends into the background noise but everyone around you hears it loud and clear .
Its the social responsibility angle plus it pleases the EPA and justifies the crappy stock exhaust. Good business development move for an overly senstive american population. Funny part is the boomers in their younger days where the ones who embraced the loud exhaust, now that they are older they are grumpy and complaining about taking out their hearing aids for those young'ns with the loud bikes

Unless your in a aircraft there is no mechanical reason for a 28" long x 3"dia. open pipe on a motor aside from the owners ego . Get over it . 30 yrs ago it had the advantage of actually making horsepower because of the head & valve train designs . All those drawbacks have been designed out in newer generation motors , the popular racket makers today actually reduce performance not enhance it . It's " Dig Me " on my bad *** ride nothing else .

Actually it has nothing to do with that. I like the sound of a bike, just like I like the sound of a 60s 442. It is music to me. If I can be at a stop light and have to listen to rap music and heavy metal crap they can listen to my pipes. This is America and we are still free. Plus, you can't tell me that the cat in the head pipe is a peformance upgrade.

No it isn't true but neither are 3" open straights anymore
To the OP, HD's public stance is consistent with the product they sell. Stock Harleys are quiet. It's the aftermarket pipes that make them loud. Can't fault HD for that.
