Forgot to mention that what you will learn on an IH Sporty will be knowledge that carries over to a modern B-T or Sporty...

My first Harley was a 1973 Ironhead Sportster and I rode that bike for several years without any problem. Got married, had a kid, and the Sportster and Jaguar XKE had to go. Man, I wish I still had the Ironhead.

The bike in the picture you shared looks to be in great condition and appears to be stock and original. Great bike, but be prepared to learn how to fix it! No Harley dealers, that I know of, work on anything that old.

Many of the problems encountered are so mechanically simple to fix that it really isn't a big headache, provided you have a little knowledge turning a wrench.
I'd jump all over it if the motor/tranny are healthy.

Edit: Here she is. I bought her home in several boxes and she turned into this. Please excuse the crappy pic. Its a photo of a photo since there were no digital cameras back the LOL!
that is a really nice bike dude. If you turned a basket into this you got some skills.

here is a picture of mine but its not show quality like yours....but its reliable...didnt get that way over night though.

That is one sexy bike. If you're willing to work on it run don't walk but run and make that trade.
