Thinking changing trans pulley for better lowend ?
I have 2005 Deuce and I'm thinking of going to a andrews 29 tooth pulley for better acceleration part #H8-455-29 in the dennisk cat. ? is will I have to change my drive belt. Or can I pull this off with just making a belt adjustment ? The belt/bike only has 6000 on it and this would stop the job.
You may want to some reading through this web site , they have all kinds of fun reading for tweaking things for your bike and lots info charts on things like pulley sizes verse belt lengths & center distances on different configurations .
Also BDL's website had a couple nice charts also . Between the two you can get a real time idea what the results will be for a change before you commit . Use this chart for rough guide to start .
Be sure to read up.. seems like just this past summer another member went to a 30 tooth and now is bitchen bout his bike being rev-ed way to high at 70 mph.
Just double check Ur ratios before doing all the work and $$$$$..

I have a 96 heritage with the 80 evo...5 speed, I bought the bike with a 29T pulley...way to low going to 34T...u might want reconsider unless u just ride around town ....i want to say it is about 3-5% per tooth on every thousand rpm
Also I am running a stock belt.....pain in the *** to change pulley out too, had to buy a inner race bearing puller to change mine..run about 150 bucks for tool..u might not need one on your bike......u might want to check on that too..

Thanks for the charts, I think the 30 tooth with the stock belt will also be NG Maybe someone with a deuce will chime in.
One tooth will have an impact of around 200 rpm or so and at 70mph that's very noticeable both in sound and overall bike feel like vibration . Think this over a bit the model doesn't have dick to do with the numbers , basic mechanics don't change any .
The nightriders site has another calculator for figuring final ratio's and what the work to in RPM's at set MPH play with that one a bit it's educational .

That's why if it was only the pulley for the $140 bucks. And I didn't like it after a few months I would just go back to the stock pulley. The 200 rpm's don't bother me at all. It's the additional cost of the belt. And the adjustments for the axel is way back already,And on a new belt it should be the opposite.
I went from a 32t to a 30t pulley on my Dyna but it is a '06 with a six speed trans. Now I am able to use 6th easier on the highway. Of course acceleration is better. Not sure if I would do this on a five speed. BTW - no belt change.
